I have a Panasonic HDC-SD camcorder and when I try to edit downloaded video I get the following message:
"The images were not read because of insufficient free space in the work area. Free space that is more than double the original image may be required for editing." ( Error: 12079-E--2147483642)
I have an 8G memory card and it will allow me to download the videos but that's all I can do..I can't edit and put them on a dvd. I can't even select specific scenes to transfer to make it smaller. I did get earlier videos edited but that was when I had only 2G to download.
I have thought about buying a DVD Recorder but would rather not spend the money if I don't have to!
Thanks
Hi,
Did have the same problem. If you have copied (backuped) the files to your harddrive, you must have twice the amount of free space available (working-area) on your HD to be able to edit the videos with the panasonic software. Default the workarea is c:\ (choose settings in main menu --> HDD Settings --> Select working area) After changing it to the d-drive (80 gb available) i didn't get the message and could working again with the video's!
Yes you're correct that there's a size limit ohn this unit in using that easy editing function...
Attach the camera with a usb cord to the computer with the card in. Then see if you can move the files that way.
Hi, try formatting the card from the camcorder menu, probably the work space area has not been defined in the correct way, or is full with temp files.
The size of the card does not matter, the working space area is defined by the camera with always the same size.
This is the problem of the faulty or defective memory card.the memory card is not programmed properly by the manufacturer.so when you save any thing on your memory card it corrupts.that is why all this problems are arising.it happens only if the card is faulty.just replace the memory card.then record some video and then try to edit and use other features and check.it will work fine once you put in new memory card.your camcorder is absolutely fine.nothing to worry.
thanks for using fixya.
do not forget to rate this help accordingly.

I have 2 separate 8G memory cards and it did the same thing for each one. As I said in my first message when I only had 2G recorded on the same 8G memory card I could edit the video. It seems to have something to do with the amount of data I have downloaded. It lets me download but once I have downloaded the only thing I can do with the info is transfer it back to the SD card. I can't see anything in the instructions for HD Writer advising of a limit to memory.
I do have the usb cable plugged in when I transfer the video files over. It's once I have them downloaded on to HD Writer that I have the problem. When I click on the easy editing button it comes up with the above error message. I have 3 files. 1 with only 2G memory and the other 2 have about 7G each. I can edit and transfer the smaller file but not the large ones. In the small file I can pick which scenes I want to edit and transfer to media but with the big files I get the insufficient free space error. It doesn't allow me to increase the free space. I have looked in the manual for help but can't find any information on troubleshooting this error.
I can move all the files from the SD card onto the HD Writer program. Once they are there I should be able to click easy editing and then select the individual scenes I want to transfer to cd or email but when the easy edit screen opens and I click on the folder with the video it comes up with the error message about insufficient free space. As I stated before I have 3 files I have transfered, and the small file of about 2G I can edit but the 2 larger files that are about 7G I can't.
HI, I tried that and it still didn't work so what I ended up doing is transferring the files back onto the 2 SD cards and then downloading just half the files and it has worked. It must be a size issue with the HD Writer program because when it was just 4G it worked ok. I guess there is a limit to the amount of data you can download at one time. Thanks anyways.
