I charge my player for over 8hrs a day and only get about an hour and a half of use? I was able to get more than that up to about a week ago, the player is less than a year old

I've heard where some batteries have to 'relearn' their charge. Try discharging the battery completely (using the player until it shuts down from low charge). Let it set about half an hour like that. Then plug it in and recharge it, be sure to unplug it just after the charging icon goes green. See if this helps. If you need a new battery, you would probably want to check eBay as they are hard to find other areas online.

Sounds like the rechargeable battery has gone bad.  Replace the battery and don't let the player cook in the wall socket next time.

Battery

Eventually your battery will have a short/no life indeed. Though this happens to all laptops.
Using your laptop while it is charging isn't going to damage anything. It just means that the battery will take longer to charge because you're using the laptop.
To get the most life out of the battery, fully charge it and then use it until it is empty. It's also a good idea to remove the battery when the laptop is connected to the mains supply.
All you're trying to do is extend the life of the battery. The day will come when it holds a short/no charge.

Your battery has come to the end of it's life. You'll need to buy a new battery.

Batterylife,GoGear Vibe 4GB how long between each charge, getting 5 to 6 hours.

The battery life is rated at 25 hours for audio and 4 hours for video. If the charge is not holding you can try ensuring device is secured while charging. If this does not work the battery is bad and should be replaced. This is not horrible news, batteries for the GoGear Vibe 4GB are only $10.00.

I CHARGE BATTERY BUT IT WONT HOLD CHARGE

Rechargeable lithium batteries have a half-life of about three years. That means half of the capacity is gone is three years - another quarter in another three years. Replacement batteries can be found online. Even if your battery is not that old, this is the most likely reason for short run-life.
It is often possible to get the chemicals in the battery refilled by an online vendor. This is not only cheaper and makes the battery, literally "better than new", but is also easier on the environment.

Insignia Pilot 80G MP3 player battery life

Hey General Chao,

Unfortunately, battery life can largely depend on how any given device is used - the louder the speakers or the brighter the LCD screen, the shorter a battery will maintain its charge. The 25-hour battery life quoted by the manufacturer may simply be an estimate based on the lowest possible settings for player volume, backlight and display settings. This means that the average user will probably encounter a significantly shorter battery life, especially when using maximum volume settings to compensate for ambient noise or other interference.

If you're still concerned, remember that you can always contact the manufacturer for further assistance at their toll-free hotline: 877-467-4289. Should your MP3 player be suffering from an actual hardware failure, Insignia may be able to provide you with additional trouble-shooting support or repairs if necessary.

Hope this helps you out.

Sincerely,
Aaron
