Top load Maytag Washer LAT8608AAW won't stop running unless I stop it myself. It goes from 1 cycle to the next. It also agitates clothes in the beginning of the cylcle while it's filling w/water (if i shut lid). So now, to do a load of wash, I let it fill w/water, shut lid, set timer for 20 miniutes so I can shut it off myself. If i forget to stop it, it just goes and goes w/out stopping! Please help.

ckd wiring connections motor and timer? if they look ok suspect timer ..motor contacts in timer may be shot

The cheaper thing to check first is is your lid bent? The lid switch is in the center of the lid. If it "droops" or has been bent, it shaft on the back of the lid cant hit the switch. Open the lid and apply pressure in the bottom, center of the lid. This usually corrects the problem without replacing the switch.

You have a bad lid switch. You can buy these very cheap at your local dealer. Sometimes you can just bypass them if you have no kids in the house that will open the door while its running. Good luck!!

hay this is a tougher one .i tried to find a wiring diagram but couldn't.so ill tellyou what im thinking.when it stops and you lift the lid and it gets going is the clue,we know motor ok it will spin .we know lid switch ok you replaced.sooooooooo take a look at your diagram and see what componets come into play by way of the lid swtch opening then closeing.some how power is diverting may be to timer..........wow you gave a pretty good report on whats going on.so im reading and the running it in my mind.you say it will agaitate until in off position.so im thinking how can that happen.there has tobe a contact point stuck.when unit gets to end of washs cycle it should pause and wait to empty then refill or spin if after rinse .the presure switch tells the timer that has been done, but if presure switch bad washer may over flow or not fill so it seams fine.thinking.......you could use the process of elimanation but that could be expensive.thinking.........could the presure switch hose be blocked ,fooling the system? clean blow out.there can be no water in it before the tub fills..........you can blow thru tube while attached to presure switch and with ohm meter make sure its switches are working........but check all you can to elimanate the eazy stuff and go from their.i hope ive been some help.you can email if any questions .God bless ,tom
SOURCE: my washer wnot agitate unless i slam lid
is the lid up during the filling process? the new washers will not agitate unless the lid is down. no need to slam the lid.. There is no pin to push the activator switch.. they are controlled with a magnet...
