I have a 1993 murray lawn tractor 12.5hp brigs&stratton ic engine with a 4 position (off, on/headlights, on, start) ignition switch, It has 6 terminals on the back The only replacement I can find is a 3 position (off, on, start) with 6 terminals. I'm trying to find a wiring diagram for the mower to decipher the difference in the placement of the wires on the 2 switches. I don't care about the headlights. I just can't figure out the alternator and kill wires, because this is magneto ignition. Any help would be appreciated.

Take an ohm's and amp. meter and go to the ohm's setting and see which terminals are off and on. If you want to kill the engine put it on the off side. If you want to run anything put it on the start and run side of the switch. Hope this clears things up a bit. donnyb60.

Try taking off the engine shroud and cleaning the magnets on the fly wheel. Also clean the two little prongs on the magneto. Also clean the end of the spark plug wire. I use fine sand paper or emery cloth.

not a expert just trying to help,, sounds like you have heat problem with the carb or the fuel line,,make sure all the heat sheids are there,, if not repllace them,,cause it will cause the gas to try to vapor lock. hope this help you
