Go to: http://www.google.com/accounts and click on the "Can't access your account" link in the login box. If you set up any account recovery methods, you can use them to get your password and unlock your phone.
If this helped, please give me a few thumbs up and leave a comment, thanks!

If you go to Gmail on your computer, you should be able to recover your account. Here is for if you know your username Click . This one is for if you lost your username Click . Also try going on your phone and press menu / settings / Accounts&Sync. It might tell you what your google account username is! If none of those will work for I would say sign up for another google account and use that one. Only thing that sucks is if you bought anything from market place it probably will not show up as purchased if you use a different account.

For all android devices a google mail account is needed for purchasing apps etc. if he did not set this up and had set the pass code without the email specified the only way to get back into the phone would be to do a complete reset. Before you do this have you tried restarting the device and seeing if it gives you the ability to try to enter the code again, if not here is how to do a factory reset. As stated below this will delete everything on the sd card so i would advise you copy all the files from it onto your computer. the entire process should only take about 10 to 15 minutes depending on the phone sometimes less than this, good luck!
Performing a factory reset (hard reset)
If you're passing your phone on to someone else or your phone has a persistent problem that cannot be solved, you can do a factory reset (also called a hard reset). This returns your phone to the state it was in before the first time you turned it on.
Note: Factory reset will not remove the data and files that are in your phone's microSD card.
Factory reset is not a step to be taken lightly. It will permanently delete all your data and customized settings, and will also remove any applications you've downloaded and installed. Be sure to back up any data and files you want to keep before you do a factory reset.
Performing a factory reset using phone buttons
If you cannot turn on your phone or access the phone settings, you can still perform a factory reset by using the buttons on the phone.
