Proform 500i not working.

When placing the safety magnet, it turns on but it will not run/work at all. the only keys that you can press and show in the pannel are the program key, number 3, and number 9, but still it will not work/run at all. Please advise on how to fix it. I really miss it.

I have the exact same problem, I just got finished changing out the motor control board, it seemed to work. But I think it only worked because it had been off for so long.

I have the same issue buttons 3, 9, and program works. I tried it later that night when it was cooler and everything works fine. I have my treadmill in the garage so I believe the heat is causing the problem. try moving it to a cooler location

Everything else works fine on the machine, I was running and had turned the fan on. When I was finished with my run, turned off the fan and the fan would not shut off. Took the safety key out and the fan did not turn off. Ended up unplugging machine. Is there any way to fix this problem?

My grandson pulled string and magnet off and now it wont work

It's a safety mechanism. You are supposed to clip one end to you (the person on the treadmill) and the other stays on the treadmill. If you fall or have an emergency, it should pull off, stopping the machine. To get it to work again, just put the magnet back on. If that doesn't do it, restart the machine with the magnet in place.

Incline problem

All icon models are the same. The easiest way to incline calibration is to start the treadmill, push the incline up button and then after you release the button, remove the safety key. Replace the safety key and the treadmill should calibrate.
If that doesn't work, press the stop and speed up buttons and hold, then place the safety key in place. This will bring you to the speed/incline calibration. Press stop again. now press incline up. This will run the incline calibration.
You may need to remove the hood and manually with a drill lower the motor. Using a slot screwdriver bit, lower the motor a bout 50 turns and then try the procedure above again if necessary.

Cannot turn on proform 380 cs treadmill

1) test the outlet wall with a desklamp, if the lamp turn On THE circuit is o.k otherwise, the problem is fuse blown or c. breaker tripped, reset or replace fuse.
2) test the power cord for open or faulty. with VOM usin continuity
3) test the fuse y/o c.breaker inside of machine and reset or replace.
4) Turn on the machine if the machine keep the same simpton, test the key(magnet) the key is a magnet, test vs your magnet from seal magnet of your refrigerator for atraction or repulsion, if doesnot pass the test replace the magnet from some hardware like home depot.
and PROOF again, can be work. see the block,
Otherwise if the problem keep you must call some tech profesional, maybe you have Main switch open or defective and need replace, or power supply, capacitor, transformer, etc defective. or faulty.
God bless you

I have the pro-form 980 cs and the screen displays a bright blue color but no words on the display. It was working fine, but a storm over the weekend knocked out our electrical power. It has not worked...

Dear Friend:
Thank you by your request.

I will try to help you inmediately:

nstructions Things You'll Need
  • Phillips screwdriver
  • Allen wrenches (included with the Proform 980 and Proform 980CS)
  1. Power
    • 1 Ensure that the treadmill is plugged into a grounded outlet using the correct surge suppressor. Use a UL 1449 suppressor listed as a transient voltage surge suppressor (TVSS). It must be rated for 15 amps and 120 volts AC. Secure the services of an electrician if the outlet is not grounded, or move the Proform treadmill near a grounded outlet. Do not use an extension cord.
    • 2 Insert the safety key fully into the display. Treadmills with keys are designed not to turn on without the safety key in place.
    • 3 Find the circuit breaker on the front of the frame and make sure it is not tripped. The circuit breaker is a vertical switch on the 98CS and a horizontal switch on the 980 Interactive Trainer. Press it to the "Reset" position, which will be labeled.
    Reed Switch
    • 1 Unplug the treadmill and remove the safety key.
    • 2 Move the upright base of the treadmill down with the help of another person and lift the uprights so that you can get to the underside of the console. Use a Phillips screwdriver with at least a 5-inch shaft to remove the screws. There are five hood screws on the 980 Interactive trainer and four screws on the 980CS.
    • 3 Remove the motor hood to get to the small reed switch by pivoting the hood off the frame. Find the reed switch and magnet, which are on the left side of the pulley for both models.
    • 4 Turn the pulley with your hand until the reed switch aligns with the magnet. There should be 1/8-inch gap between the two. Fix the distance so that it is 1/8 inch by loosening the reed switch screw and sliding it to the correct distance. Tighten the screw.
    • 5 Reverse the directions to put the hood back on and the treadmill upright in the original position.
    Optic Sensor
    • 1 Unplug the treadmill, take out the key and remove the hood cover.
    • 2 Locate the optic disc and optic sensors. The optic disc is the only circular disc set between two optic sensors.
    • 3 Spin the disc with your hand. It must spin without hitting either of the sensors. Loosen the adjustment bolts that hold the switches in place with the included Allen wrench and adjust them to ensure they do not interfere with the discs' ability to spin. Tighten the bolts and replace the hood

Thank you in advance, sincerely. Blessing.

None of my keys in my proform 500i woek excep the 3mp and the 9 mp no even the start works

If the console takes batteries, replace them. If this does not work or your console does not require batteries, check the reed switch or optic sensor. Reed Switch: Unplug the treadmill and remove the motor hood cover. The reed switch is mounted on the frame next to the front roller pulley. There is a magnet glued into the front roller pulley. When adjusting the reed switch, make sure it is pointing directly at the magnet. Move the tip of the reed switch within 1/8" of the magnet. Also, check to see that the wire is not damaged, and is connected to the console.
Optic Sensor: Unplug the treadmill and remove the motor hood cover. The optic disk and sensor are located either at the end of the motor or the right hand side of the front roller. The optic disk spins between two sensors on the optic switch. The disk must spin freely without touching either sensor. The sensors can be moved by loosening the adjustment bolt holding the switch to its bracket. The switch can then be slid. Center the disk
aFTER YOU TEST THE SENSOR DETERMINE IF THERE ARE FAULTY AND REPLACE.

Do you have to have key for proform xt70 to use it?

The short answer is Yes , it will not run without the key being in place. The key lanyard clip are designed to shut down the treadmill should the user fall while using the treadmill to help prevent serious injury. The long answer and I would not advise anyone to do this , but it is possible to take the console apart and bypass the safety switch. I would only do this if I did not have a key and wanted to test to see if the machine worked . Some models can be tested with a round magnet in place of the key others need a plastic card trimmed down to fit the slot .
Hope this helps and remember safety first !!

My proform treadmill turns on and the inlcline works however the belt does not move. Any suggestions?

Enter calibration mode and do a calibration first.
Press the stop & speed up key, insert the safety key/magnet. Press stop 1 more time. Press speed up, the speed display should start to increase in value. By 30-40, the motor should be running. If not, you either need a motor or motor controller PCB. What model is the treadmill?? PCTL???

I borrowed evo treadmill 500i, but dont have the safety key for it is there any way of starting it? i have no idea where the key is to be inserted either.

Maybe it uses a magnet, like mine does. Are there any conspicuous places on the front that you might think a magnet may be placed? Mine is on the lower front left side and has a square, pushed in molding in the plastic where the magnet sits.

1) Press the Stop and the Speed Up keys down while inserting the safety key. If this doesn’t work, click on the help topic entitled “Alternate Calibration Codes” for key sequence instructions to enter calibration.
2) Press the Stop key one time. The Time window should read EP:2P. Some newer models may also say FP, Pass, or the like. This means that it passes the EPROM test.
3) Press either incline key and the incline will calibrate automatically.
4) THIS IS A VERY IMPORTANT STEP BECAUSE YOU WILL GET AN ERROR MESSAGE IF THIS STEP IS SKIPPED.After completing calibration of incline, press the Stop key and then remove the safety key.
