There were different wiring schematics for the various models of D-104 mics. Amplified D-104's, if you have a TUG8 stand then you only have four wires, a shield, a transmit audio (white), and two PTT wires (red+ and black-). If you have a TUG9 or TUP9 stand (like the ones that are usually on a Silver Eagle or a Golden Eagle) then you have 6 wires to contend with. You should be able to find the wiring diagram needed to wire your D-104 to the IC-706, (mk2?). I would recommend that you also do a modification to the D-104 to make it more compatible with modern radios and their much lower impedance requirement. Kits are available online to do this. Your 706 needs appx. 600 ohms. Using a older D-104 will make your transmit audio sound bad. Also, keep the potentiometer in the base of the mic at the lowest setting possible. Adjust only until you are heard with a normal volume. Cranking it up won't get you out any further and will only distort your transmit audio.
