Set-up won't recognize that the USB cable is connected to both printer and computer and therefore printer won't work. What's up with that??

1. Confirm the USB port on the computer you are connecting your printer to is being recognized by your computer. The easiest way to do this would be to plug a known good USB Memory stick into the USB port you want to use. If you can read the contents of the USB Memory stick then the port should work. Remove the Memory stick, start the printer installation program (Make sure you don't the printer connected), want until the setup program tells you to connect the printer before you attach the Printer's USB cable.
If the printer isn't recognized try a different USB port, when picking a new USB port to try select a higher priority port, for example in increasing priority from, an external USB hub, a powered external hub, a monitor based hub, USB ports on the front of the computer, up to the USB ports at the computer rear. For USB ports on the same circuit select an USB 2.0 before an USB 3.0 port

How connect a tcp ip printer.

Hi Kumar,
You can modify or change port in the printer driver to connect it through LAN cable. Please notice whether you use static or dynamic ip address. Please follow below step.

In the following step we will modify your existing USB connection. Check it out!

Step:
  • Open printer driver list.
  • Right click on the printer drive name (e.g Canon IR2270).
  • Select Properties.
  • Click Ports tab.
  • Click Add Port, then select Standard TCP/IP Port.
  • Click New Port.
  • Click Next on add port wizard menu.
  • Type IP Address (for static ip setting) or Printer Name (DHCP), then click Next (computer will search the printer).
  • When the printer has been found, finish the wizard.
  • Close Add Port menu.
  • Now you have new port represented by IP Address or Printer Name (with checked box active) in port list .
  • Click Apply.
Bingo! Now your printer ready to print via LAN. Sometimes printing right after setting this new port not always succeed. Don't be panic. Restart both of printer and the computer.
Next time you want to connect the printer via USB port so you change port back to USB. Just simply check on the check box next to USB Port in port list and click apply. You may need to restart both printer and computer too :)

Have a nice day!

Where is the port on my Brother MFC 240 printer to connect to my computer located? All I see is a power cord and two phone ports.

The USB port to connect your printer to your computer is kind of hidden. To get to it, you have to open up the printer like a clamshell. There is a small tab on either side of the scanner bed, sticking out from the printer -- lift up on these two tabs, and the scanner bed will open up. There is a support arm on the left hand side -- make sure it locks into place so the scanner doesn't fall back down.

The USB port is located a couple of inches behind the LCD display and an inch or so to the right. It faces diagonally to the rear right side of the printer, so it may be hard to see, but the USB logo is stamped onto the plastic next to it.

The Type B connector from the USB cable (the squarish one) plugs into the printer here, and the cable runs out through the back of the printer in the little ditch that goes to the right and then out the back. Make sure the cable lies in this track, otherwise it may get pinched.

Once you have connected the USB cable and laid it in the track, close the printer carefully by pushing the locking arm in to the right. (There is a diagram on the printer itself.)

If you ever find your computer losing connectivity with the printer, check that this cable is securely in place -- if the printer gets jostled or moved, the cable may be pulled out a little bit.

Computer won't recognize printer

Try each of the USB ports on your computer.

Assuming that you have a USB-cable between the computer and the printer, unplug the USB-cable from the computer, and connect some other USB device (iPod or memory-stick). Does Windows detect that other device? If not, then you need to install the correct software device-drivers for your USB ports.

Is the printer properly detected when connected to some other laptop/desktop computer?

Dont know if I have the right cords specifically what is the connection process.

If you go to the Canon support site here you can downlod easy setup instructions. This page has some other manuals and user guides that may also be of use.
Here are the basic usb cable instructions:
Connect the USB Cable Correctly (i70 / i80 / iP90) Instructions to connect the USB Cable Correctly to the printer (i70 / i80 / iP90). Before connecting the cable
After confirming the printer and computer are turned off, connect them using the USB cable (sold separately).

Note: Below is an example of what a standard 'A to B' USB Cable looks like.

How to connect the USB cable
  • Plug the flat connector of the cable into the USB port of the computer.

Note: If there are two or more USB ports in the computer, any available port may be used.

  • Plug the squarish connector of the cable into the USB cable receptacle of the printer.

My printer and computer are not communicating at

If the software is installed for the printer, there is only two things you can do.

Plug a USB device that's already working into that port. If it's working, It'll install the driver.

If it's not working, try another port. Change your USB cable to another one. Also, in the BIOS, set the USB port to high speed.

Is there more than one place on my hard drive to connect the printer

If this printer connects to your computer using a USB cable recommend to use the same USB port on the computer that was connected during installing the printer drivers and software. In the future if you change to a different USB port your computer might still find the printer ... if it doesn't reinstall the software.
