Golden companion 2 scooter moves slow in reverse

Golden companion 2 scooter moves slow in reverse and forward

  • Anonymous May 11, 2010

May sound silly but, have you adjusted the speed on your controller?
This is a pot that goes from L to R and increses the speed

How old is the companion? They always go slower in reverse because most of us don't have eyes in the back of our head! LOL! also there's a little tuning computer module that you can hook up to the scooter and adjust so many of the braking and accelerating speeds etc so that may have been messed with as well. If it runs fine in forward and it's slow in reverse, that's normal. Now if it used to be quote unquote fast in reverse and now it's slower than that would have to be something where somebody would have to get Hands-On to diagnose.

I would suggest there is either a loose connection or the speed control has failed, the scooter will still run but at a slow speed, the part is fairly standard in all scooters. if i can be any furthur assitance please email me rick @ lxrixta.co.uk (remove the spaces)

In addition to my previous reply it might also be worth checking the condition of the batteries, worn batteries are unable to provide the full amount of current required to drive at full speed (although they will still show 12v approx) a battery giving less than 10v is considered "empty" and needs charging or replacing

I have a Golden Companion II scooter that some times won't go into reverse at start up. Sometimes I hear the relay and it tries to back up but stops. At other times in reverse nothing happens.

It sounds like a relay issue, it may also be the carbon brushes on the motor because you are reversing the motor direction. Phone these people and ask. There is no relay listed, just a very expensive 'Dynamic Controller'.

How do you remove the forward/reverse assembly?

You will need to remove the tiller cover to see the assembly. Then you will see the screws to remove. Be sure to disconnect the batteries so you do not short out anything. Scooter Doctor App

My golden companion 2 Gc 321 goes forward when i push reverse and goes reverse when i push forward

It sounds to me like someone has gotten inside & tampered with it, Cameron. Maybe they twisted the drive belt 180 degrees or something? Or rewired the motor backwards?

My golden companion 2 Gc 321 goes forward when i push reverse and goes reverse when i push forward

Sounds like the motor cables are in reverse at the controller. Check that the red is in the positive and the black wire is in the negative on the controller.

I have a Golden Companion II, all power comes on:light, battery meter and horn but it won't move when I press the throttle. I do hear the click from the brake but it won't move forward or reverse. If its...

Tony Check the freewheel lever Make sure that the scooter can't be pushed easily. If you can push it then its in freewheel. Now Tony you could have a problem with the brake itself. There is a small micro switch on the brake that engages and disengages when you move the freewheel lever. If you can get a close look at it make sure that it still looks like its operating its a mechanical mech activated by the lever on the brake. If it looks ok and you can get the scooter in or out of freewheeling (the rear wheels lock and unlock) then it could be a throttle pot problem or a speed control pot problem. Fortunately you can't bypass the throttle or speed pot. You will have to get these checked by a tech either with your provider or a service company that has techs around your area. I'm sorry I couldn't give you a quick fix but scooters are more difficult to troubleshoot because of all the different componets necessary to make it go. Good Luck Hope this helps

My scooter goes backwards when i push the forward leverand vice versa. is something connected wrongly?

Mickey

It would depend on what model Compnanion Scooter you have. The latest version has a Delta Tiller and these are designed to be pulled towards you as opposed to being push away. Trust me it is an ergonomic thing. However, if your scooter does not have a Delta Tiller the wiring may be reversed.

Moving problem

More than likely its the speed pod or engager (paddle assy. This would need to be replaced.

Reversing thumb controls

Your authorized Golden Technologies, Inc. dealer can reverse the thumb lever controls so that when you push on the “left” lever, your scooter will move in the forward direction, and pushing on the “right” lever will move your scooter in reverse.

If you don't want to go to a dealer, any mechanic who is willing can make this adjustment for y ou. hope this helps.
