Cant accses router

Hi, i was fiddling around with the routers settings ( a terrible sin as i have now dsicovored) trying to set up a static IP. I changed one setting -PPOA to static IP- i think it was something like that. and i now cant acces the internet on my router and when i type in its IP addres i cant accese the router to correct the problem. i tried the reset switch on the bottom, but that didnt help, and i also tried manualy entering the ip address, subnet mask, default gate way and DNS in windows network connection this had no effect. is ther someway i can set it back to the factory default? P.S i have windows xp sp2

    Sandrew,
i tried your soloution but it did not work, after reseting the router i entertered the IP address and the browser said "unable to connect"

Now that you mention it, before the problem occured i think i accidentally turned off the DHCP.

sorry, to only mention that now, but i swear if someone solves this i will never muck about with my router agian.

also before posting the problem i did try the windows repair wizard (right click on network connection) so i guess that would not have helped.
btw, my computer is connected toe the router permanantly by an RJ45 network cable.

Hi, Probably try the other way around. Do not put you PC's IP add to auto but rather to "Use the following IP address" with the following details: IP Address - 192.168.2.2 Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway - 192.168.2.1 Of course this is assuming that you have press reset and the router indeed has reset to default factory settings and re-initialized, your LAN cable is good as indicated by the LED indicators both PC side and Router side. With or without DHCP in the router enabled, you should be able to connect to your router via its Web Configuration Utility. Good luck and kind regards.

Pressing and holding the reset button on the router for about 5 seconds should reset the router, but you may need to connect with the router via an RJ45 network cable incase the wireless is not able to set it up The default ip address of the router should then be 192.168.2.1. do not use the windows repair wizard as this totally messes up your pcs ip address, make sure that your network wireless and wired adapters, are set to obtain an ip address automatically You shouldnt change the PPOE or PPOA settings, as they are the settings on which your ISP allows your router to connect to the server. Manually entering an ip address will effect the address of the router so keep the settings as enable DHCP to assign ip addresses automatically. Ensure when you have it running you save the settings so as you can reinstall them if neccasary.

there must be something simple and obvious wrong somewhere, after a hard reset you should be able to access the router, the problem may be at the pc end.

is your wired lan network card set to obtain an ip address automatically(control panel>network connections>right click>properties>select TCP/IP line>properties>select obtain ip address automatically), if not set it and then restart your pc without the lan cable connected and reset your router also.

reconnect your RJ45 cable and it should connect after a few refreshes of your browser.

I cant connect with the dlink dir 600 with my macbook pro

1. If you have downloaded all the updates for this model router and it still will not connect it may be due to "incompatibility withe Macbook Pro or the what is call end of life" for this device and a new router will probably work better.
I would check D-Link's page for update for your model
2. check to see if your setting for TCP/IP is correct
( that is that you don't have the ip ( internet protocol ) set to a static IP that is a set IP.
3. Check to see if you have you setting for DHCP ( automatically) this will allow the server to set an ip or the the router.
Most routers that have there settings for static are a special setup.

I am trying to install the WRT160 N router, but can't install it due to having a Static IP. What should I do? The set up CD is giving the message that the the ethernet cord isn't plugged in. All I am doing...

Do not run the set up disc do it manually.
.You said that you have a static IP.
Is the static IP for the internet service provider or it is on the computer.
If you have set up the static IP on the computer then you will need to remove the static IP address from the computer and set it to obtain IP automatically.
If you have a static IP given by the ISP then you can use it to set up on the router.
Check the Ip address of the computer when connected to the router.
I believe the default gateway will be 192.168.1.1.
open the set up page of the router. default password of the router will be admin. Once you open the set up page of the rotuer, you will find the option Internet connection type. set it to STATIC IP address.
then you will get the option to enter the static IP address given by ISP.
Enter the information and Click save settings at the bottom and you will
be able to go online.

When I connect a laptop or xbox by wireless, I loose the internet connection on the main PC, i then cant have more than one wireless connection at the same time. I can only have one internet connection...

Please check if the router settings is set to DHCP rather than giving static IP addresses. You can do this by logging into the router's page and then navigate to the Wireless Settings portion. If it is set to give out static IP address only, change the setting and allow DHCP.

Cannot connect to internet via lan but can connect via wifi need to have my lan working i live in a apartment but i cant have a router set up

first need to know if the LAN has an IPsetup manually (static IP) if it's set static set it to obtain an IP automatic. If it's already set to obtain an IP automatic, try to reset the winsock and see if that will fix the problem, search google how to do that on DOS. if that did nottry to set the LAN card to work on 10mbps or 10 half duplex mode. if this won't work then the lan card might be bad.

Dns failed when i tried to setup xbox live. i have a belkin router set up and my console is set up next to the xbox. what do i need to do?

Information on setting up port forwarding can be found at:

http://portforward.com/

If you want to go with a static setting this is what you need to do:

  • Login to the Router/Gateway by entering it's IP address in your web browser. (http://192.168.2.1)
  • On the left panel of the firmware page, under "Firewall," you should see a link "DMZ" for the Static IP configuration.
  • Your router should generate 25-50 Dynamic IP addresses for, choose a Static IP outside that range. (192.168.x.200)
  • Then go into your Xbox network configuration and set the IP address to the newly defined DMZ.
  • IP: 192.168.x.200 Subnet: 255.255.255.0 Gateway: 192.168.2.1 (Primary DNS is the same as the gateway)

Can not access my ip address in order to change NAT settings

Hi Brengolfter3,

My guess is, the IP to your router is still 192.168.x.x. Only way you are going to be able to get to the router, is to set your machine to a static IP, and then try to get to the router.
This site tells you how set it to static, http://corz.org/comms/hardware/router/static.ip.address.php

The IP you listed is assigned to Easton Utilites, so I have asume it is your internet IP. You might want to check the Xbox troubleshooting for the Xbox, so you don't have to disable your Nat, which is a firewall, by default. Good Luck!

Assign a static IP address to the 360, then go into your router's setting and set a DMZ for that static IP.
