When 8 students are working the mouse will not move and all is locked up even on the server. I can't figure out why it is doing this about ever 5 - 10 minutes all day. The only way to start it is with a hard boot by pressing in the on/off button. And they all get logged in and it freezes up again.

If your phone is not unlocked, you should be able to connect it to iTunes to correct the problem. If none of the buttons are responding, simply connect it to your home computer using the sync cable and then wait for the apple symbol to come up. If you are still having a problem, put it in DFU mode by pressing and holding the center and sleep buttons for ten seconds (while the iPhone is plugged in.) hope this helps.
Testimonial: "Thanks! Both solutions helped. The DFU while plugged in got a reboot past the logo. Apple, the next morning, released the 3.1.2 update. All Fixed!!"

Restoring the factory-set defaults returns all of the settings to the factory defaults, and it also clears the fax header name, phone number, speed dials, and any stored faxes in the product memory. CAUTION: This procedure also clears all fax numbers and names that are associated with one-touch keys and speed-dial codes, and deletes any pages that are stored in the memory. The procedure then automatically restarts the product. 1. On the product control panel, press Setup. 2. Use the arrows buttons to select Service, and then press OK. 3. Use the arrows buttons to select Restore defaults, and then press OK. The product automatically restarts.

It seems that the hard drive or the memory module is not seated properly and hence after pressing on the area below keyboard it gets released.
You can try following things.
Remove and reseat the Hard drive.
And remove and reseat the Memory.
Try to power on the laptop again.
If is getting hang again then you may need to do the HDD self test and memory test built into BIOS.

Sounds like you have a hardware problem - the interboard connector for the screen matrix has deteriorated. Try reset first, but if that doesn't work, might be time for another phone.
