I had the same problem and checked the panasonic site and the solution worked for me. Here it is:
You received a message on the voice mail system provided by your telephone company. To hear the message, dial the voice mail access number provided by your service provider, and follow the voice instructions for accessing the mailbox. Depending on your service provider you may need to clear your voice mailbox to remove the notification. If you have listened to all your voice mail messages and the handset still indicates New Voice Mail just clear the message on the handset by pressing and holding the [OFF] button for about 5 seconds to clear the displayed message on the handset.
I just found this on the internet hope it helps you out.
The message indicator lights up when you have a new voicemail message,
answering machine message, when you are receiving a call, or when the
handset is placed on the charger. You can change the setting for the
voicemail indicator and message indicator by pressing [MENU],
[#][3][4][0], and press [▲] or [▼] to switch between off and on, then
select [Save]. It is not possible to turn off the LED for an incoming
call, or while it is on the charger.
The blinking light usually means one of two things: 1) message box is full or 2) you have a new message. Deleting messages should solve this problem for you. After you delete the messages, if you still have a blinking light, unplug the power cord and take the batteries out of all the phones linked to the base unit. Then one at a time put the batteries back in after you plug the base unit in. This should clear and error. Some base units have a back-up battery, don't forget to remove it too!
You have unheard messages on the voicemail system provided by your telephone company. This system takes messages when someone calls while you're already on the phone. Please contact your telephone company for instructions on accessing their voicemail system.
Most of the time your home phone service has a digital voice mail like your cell phone does. If the answering machine is set for an amount of rings that is too long the digital voice mail service will answer before your machine. The new cordless phone indicators do show messages on your digital voice mail as well as the answering machine. Depending on your home service, most of the time when you press talk and you hear a different non standard dial tone(mine pulses 3 times before going to solid dial tone) you have a digital message. You need to delete this message before the indicator light will stop flashing. Then set up you digital voice mail for a longer pickup time! This should get rid of this problem.
I have a Uniden 5.8 GHz and the message indicator light will not stop flashing. The phone screen says I have a voice mail but I don't. Does anyone know to fix it?
That is the message waiting indicator, it is telling you that your Call Notes (Or whatever your service provider calls it's voicemail) has a message waiting. If you do not have a message waiting, you can turn the light of by following these steps:
Resetting the voice message waiting indicator
When you receive a new voice mail message, the new message LED on the top of the handset flashes and
appears in the handset display. In the event your message waiting light gets out of sync with your phone company’s
voice messaging system, you can manually reset it back to the “No messages waiting” state.
Press and hold FIND on the base for five seconds.
Note: The handsets connected to the base will start to beep, however, keep pressing for five seconds.
A beep sounds and the message alert tone is reset.
An alternative to this problem, i've got ...possibly its a COMCAST feature..
Call your own number which will activate the ansering option for COMCAST and then u can read ur messages. This will ge the NEW VOICE MAIL message off ur handset.
In that case i find the answering machine of the phone useless and shouldnt have put money for the same.
call your phone service and have them disconnect the voice mail and if they cant just remove that have them set there rings at like 9 since most phones only have up to 5 rings for the machine to answer.you will have to use there voice mail service to hear your message and then delete it but should be good after that. i have comcast and they said it would take 3 days to deactivate voice mail but told me how to get there so i can get rid of that flashing light, hope this helps you
