Vertical rolling of picture

T.v. has vertical roll that cannot be adjusted with vertical knob on t.v.

  • 90sTVguy Apr 29, 2008

I have the vertical roll problem which seems to go away once the TV is 'warmed up'.  It occurs when I am using cable and DVD.  What needs to be taken care of?

If the picture rolls while both on cable as well as when you playback a tape or DVD, it could be caused by a bad filter capacitor in the power supply or vertical deflection circuits. If it only rolls while trying to view a picture from a cable/satellite box, then that component is likely at fault.

Sometimes the picture rolls for 30 minutes to one hour and then the picture is perfect. A few times when we turn it on, the picture is okay and then after a few hours, the rolling picture starts. Where is...

The rolling is a bad filter capacitor on the signal board in the set---Any Mitsubishi dealer can look the model up and see known faults including this one---some of the sets when cold---vertical jitter in picture or just menu---If the menu is stable you have a tiny bad cap= weak caps when cold act up and when get hot regain capacitance and start to work.

Picture roll up and down

Standard CRT televisions have a vertical roll adjustment, usually on the back at the bottom.
It may look like a white finger-knob (about the size of a pencil eraser) with a small screwdriver slot in the end...or it may be a roll-wheel...either way, it will be labeled "vertical" (or just "vert").

Make slow adjustment to the vertical until the roll stops.

*Use a solid signal for the adjustment, like DVD, VCR or cable...a weak signal can cause a bit of roll, too.

The picture on my TS-4573 rear projection tv has started to roll vertically at a fast rate. How can I make this stop. On old tv's there was a vertical hold adjustment on the back that you could play with...

this fault is caused by defective electrolytic capacitors in the vertical deflection circuits, they need to be changed out, do this before it causes more problems, there are no adjustments for this anymore.

I cannot find vertical hold

The sync is automatic. There are no knobs to turn. If the picture is rolling, look first to the source connection and make sure your tv has a solid vertical sync connection. If you are using the RF input then the issue could be within your small signal board also known as the SSB. Good luck.

Video tapes played through VCR experience vertical 'rolling'

unfortunatly no. the vert hold is set by black bars at the top/bottom of the video signal (outside of the viewable area). it sounds like your VCR or tape is damaged.

Tv roll

Are you sure the roll isnt Vertical? as if it is then all you need to do is adjust the VERTICAL HOLD PRESET POT which should be located on the PCB somewhere, its very unusual for TV.S to roll horizontally as then the picture just goes out of sync. and you would not see a picture at all. When you find the pot turn it ( with a small screw driver) slowly until the rolling stops, if it does not stop then you have a faulty component in the vert. sync. circuitry.

Disney tv picture rolling

many older tv's had a vertical synch adjustment knob which would correct this, but I doubt yours has one thats accesible without opening the case. If you decide to open the case, be very careful of the flyback and other high voltage points, even when it's unplugged. possibly there will be a trim pot on one of the boards silkscreened V SYNC.
