I inherited a grandfather clock. It was made after 1970. It has not run for years. I cleaned the clock mechanism and it is run well again.
But it runs about 10 minutes slow every 24 hours. . The stem, which holds the pendulum, was broke. I had the piece fixed by a welder.
I tried adjusting the pendulum but it still runs slow. Do you any suggestion other than replacing the clock mechanism to make the clock run on time?
You have to adjust the bob on pendulum. If the clock is slow, the bob on the rod must be pushed up. If the clock is fast, the bob must be pushed down. Do adjustments bit by bit, day by day till the clock is keeping time. If all this does not work, you may need to replace suspension spring (if there is any). If there are no suspension spring, the clock may need proffessional attention.
Anything with a nut or nuts is usually very easily manipulated and clocks are no different. The pendulum has a bobbin, under the bobbin is a nut, this is called the rating nut. Sometimes there are 2 nuts 1 is only a lock nut. Hold the pendulum and to slow the clock down turn the nut from right to left and to speed the clock up turn the nut from left to right. I do not know the length of your pendulum so experiment 1 turn at a time every 24 hours. You will find a difference between the Summer and Winter months. This is called expansion and contraction as regularly happens to things with nuts. Hope this is helpful!!!!

I move button to set and push minute button and then I'm lost.
How do I make adjustment to have the chimes ring faster?
