Honda E-1500 Generator misfiring after less than 10 minutes.

We are having trouble with our Honda E-1500. The generator runs fine but suddenly starts to misfire and may stop after a few minutes ( sometimes it manages to recover itself but not always ). It makes no difference whether it had a load or not.

We have changed the spark-plug, cleaned the petrol filters and the carburetor and changed the air filter. We have also taken the fly-wheel off and check the points but it is still having difficulties.

I'm having the same problem with a EM 5000S Honda generator. I've recently had the carburetor taken off and flushed and the problem still persists. I'm wondering if it could be a problem with the low oil cut-off switch.

You need to ditch the whole points/ condensor arrangement and fit an ignition control module. They cost £20 from offmains you can forget about ignition problems.

Why does my honda generator start right up and will not generate power

Why generators do not generate electricity

1. Fault phenomenon

When the generator set speed reaches the rated speed, the AC exciter stator excitation circuit switch is closed and the voltage regulator is adjusted to the maximum value when the generator speed reaches the rated speed.

2. failure cause
The generator core remanence disappears or is too weak, the newly installed unit is disturbed by long-distance transportation or the generator is placed for too long, the generator core remanence disappears or the remanence inductance is weak, which results in the generator remanence voltage vanishing or less than the normal remanence voltage value. That is, the remanence voltage is less than 10 V, and the remanent phase voltage is less than 6 V. Because of the stator, rotor and AC exciter stator of synchronous generator, the core of rotor is usually made of 1mm-thick silicon steel sheet, which is subjected to vibration after excitation, and the remanence magnetic field is easy to disappear or weaken.

Generator's motor continues to run butb generator stops supplying power after 10 minutes.

this model has an electronic voltage regulator this might be your problem sometimes when gen sets are left outside the little critters and such get in there and build there homes on top of something and that makes it get hot when we finnaly use the gen set , this overheats the part and hence we need to replace the part , if left outside I take fine mesh screen and cover all the air gaps in my stuff cus this has got me in past more than once

EM 3500 Will start, then stalls after 30 minutes, starts again and continues to staff after 5 to 10 minutes. Oil is fine.

With regrets, I do not have any personal experience with generator troubleshooting. However, I have been informed by some people that have good experience with them that a generator needs to be run for a couple of hours every month to keep the system in proper order. Should a generator sit idle for ten months, the fuel can actually "shellac" inside the carburetor and lines. This will then travel to areas that will gum up - thus the necessity to drain the tank and carburetor completely.
Here is their advice:

Your service person(s) may not be aware of the time the unit sits idle, and if they are aware - then they are not giving you straight facts (in my opinion). I would suggest contacting Honda customer service directly, and explain this situation to them - they will probably be more then happy to have a technician assist you properly. Contact the 'customer relations' number, and they will direct you from there. Here is the link:

I have a 2 month old Honda Eu2000I generator that until today has performed flawlessly. The ac output suddenly stopped though the output light continued to glow green and the engine continued to run. The...

Try checking the output with another appliance, the shop vac may have over heated (for whatever reason). The generator, if it encounters one, has a fault light (if memory serves) that is illuminated if anything out of the ordinary is encountered.

My Honda generators have a low oil sensor that automatically shuts them down when a low oil level is detected. I keep a quart handy and top off the oil, and they start and run fine.

I have an em3500 honda generator which starts stalling out after 1/2 hour to an hour like it is running out of gas and then shuts off. I can restart it and it will run for 1/2 hour to hour and do the same...

Recheck for spark when it stalls. If you have lost spark I would say a heat damaged coil.

You should also drain and inspect the carb bowl. You may have low fuel flow which limits full throttle operation to 30 minutes or less. When it dies you are just refilling the bowl for the next run.

Good luck and be careful!

I have a honda generator em2500x voltage problem

My E2500 did this. Turned out to be dirt in the brush holders causing the
brushes to have less pressure in the slip rings. Stopping and restarting
joggled the brushes to make better contact until they wore down again.
Pull your brushes and make sure they slide easily in your holders. Also
you may need to replace them if they are worn too much or clean the
slip rings. Good luck. Doing your own repairs is fun.... especially when
they work.

Sander failure when using honda generator

If you are using a 220 volt 4 hp floor sander, which is 95% of all floor sanders. you CANNOT use a generator less than a 25KV, which is about the size of a van. All Floor sanders draw over 80 amps at start up and during floor sanding all sanders run around 25 amps. If your motor is a Capactor style motor you can do detrimental damage to the motor. Many of my customers have done it in the past.
