USB device doesn't read

I have a external harddrive that when you plug it into the playstation it won't read it. I have 2 ps3's and they both used to work but when I updated it now neither of them will pick it up. I have the folders marked properly by usually it would say USB device on the pull down and it doesn't.

If the hard drive was not formatted prior to use, then if new; it only has been Partitioned and needs to be formatted to accept data and do a read/write.

SOURCE: ps3 system update data corrupted

Hook up the external to your USB port and copy everything over. I had to do that when I installed a larger hard drive in my PS3

SOURCE: At first the playstation 3 would not read PS3 game

Hi, it sounds like your laser either needs cleaning or is shot. First try cleaning the laser by blowing some canned air into it and see if that helps. It usually isn't the problem. If it dosen't then there is a very good chance your laser is broke and needs replaced. This is a very common problem with the PS3's. It starts by not reading certain discs then eventually it won't read anything at all. I would take it to a game repair shop and have the laser replaced. If you want to do it your self (its pretty simple really) it will save you some $$$ and you will have it back sooner. I will be more than happy to walk you through replacing the laser if you choose to do it yourself.

SOURCE: New HDD 250GB installed in PLaystation 3

Hi mate I read my nephew's booklet, apparently you have to go on the internet and download a program from the Sony website and write it on a cd, then you run the cd inside the ps3 and it should format the cd and load the system files on it.

Alternatively if you are not prepared to wait 20hrs for it to format, pop it into a computer with SATA compatibility and format it FAT32 (not NTFS your PS3 will not be able to access it), you will be able to save all your games and mp3 and videos on your new hardrive.

There may be any Software that is causing conflict. In this case, you can try installing the Software on a Computer with a very few applications installed on it. Or, you can uninstall all the unnecessary applications from the Computer and then try installing it.

I think you need to group them by albums

on a picture hit triangle then choose discription and change the album to whatever foldername you want and then under the main "picture folder"
hit square and choose sort by album this will create sub folders with the album name as the folder name.

SONY VAIO PCV R53 39 DS WON'T BOOT UP

Pull the harddrive out, install in an economical external enclosure.
The external enclosure has a USB cable.

Plug the USB cable into any available USB port, on a working computer.

Go to My Computer, or Computer; and double-click on the drive letter, that corresponds with the external enclosure.

(Actually with the harddrive in that external enclosure, it is now an external harddrive)

http://esupport.sony.com/US/p/model-home.pl?mdl=PCVR539DS&LOC=3#/howtoTab

It's an IDE harddrive. Also known as a PATA harddrive.

A harddrive is measured across it's width.
2-1/2 inches across is a laptop harddrive.
3.5 inches across is a desktop harddrive. (3-1/2 inches)

So you need a 3.5 IDE (PATA) external enclosure.

click start control panel administrive tools ,computer management ,device manager look through all of your devices if you see a yellow question mark?or exclamation mark ! or red x
right click to reinstall drivers or
if you can see your usb but its not working
ports(com&lpt)right click update driver
sometimes the wires inside the cable will be damaged due to bending or stretching or placing heavy equipment upon the cable,
just replace the cable of the hard disk, when you plugged the external disk drive you got that windows could recognize the USB device change the cable everything should work fine again,

check the USB leads that attach to the motherboard usually red-white-green-black make sure they are securely seated and have no dust build up on them dust will cause static and a lot of unforeseen problems also make sure the computers Ram and Cmos battery are securely seated
if this fails to fix the problem

I try to download stuff off the internet but it keeps saying connect storage media at the save destination what does this mean

File formats that the PS3 doesn't recognize as something that it can play can only be saved to a USB storage device, or a memory card. You can't download anything to the PS3 hard drive via the browser that you couldn't copy to it from a USB storage device. That is what the error message means. You have to connect an external storage device, because the PS3 won't store this file format on the internal drive. This protects the integrity of the system. If you connect a USB drive or memory card (you will need a USB adapter for the memory card if you don't have a launch PS3), then you can download anything that you want using the PS3 web browser.

When i plug an external harddrive in to the ps3 it isn't picked up.Why?

If you highlight "USB Devices" and then press triangle, you should then be able to select "Show All". Your files should then be shown on your external hard drive. If this does not work then it may be because the drive is formatted to NTFS instead of FAT32. The PS3 has trouble reading NTFS devices. If possible reformat the drive to FAT32 using a program called "Fat32format" which is available from here .

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa
