Unit boots up to Welcome center but once there I can't use the keyboard or mouse. I tried using an external keyboard and mouse but still nothing.

try to boot in safe mode. press F8 several times before bootup, then select safe mode. better yet safemode with networking. and did you try hooking external kb and mouse thru usb? if it proceeds, try checking online for chipset drivers and touchpad drivers at http://support.acer.com/us/en/drivers_download.aspx

Acer Aspire 5100 Notebook Boots to Windows, but nothing works. No keyboard, no mouse, no usb or CD, no external monitor. I have an Aspire 5100 Acer Laptop that has no keyboard or mouse function period...

Try booting your computer from CD ROM with the OS CD/DVD already inserted and when prompted just try repair. If that does not work re-install the same on the same 'partition' assuming it to be C by deleting the the windows system files only. While doing so keep the internet on and immediately after the basic version of the OS is installed and the m/c boots-up for the first time, go to the official website and download the latest drivers for every component like toch-pad, keypad, display, audio, etc.(i.e. almost all the drivers)

After force shutdown keyboard, mouse USB touchpad are not working

inside xp you can go to the hardware section and uninstall the usb drivers. when you reboot the drivers refresh for the usb and you can continue as usual.

My acer 5100 will boot up but the keyboard or mouse pad will not work

first thing you want to try and find out if this is a hardware or software problem. Try connecting an external keyboard and mouse (USB if you don't have mouse and keyboard ports)...then go into the device manager (On XP its control panel, system, hardware tab, device manager)...and see if your laptop keyboard and mouse is registered there. If so then uninstall them and reboot...there is a slight chance that they will reinstall and work, but may be more complicated than this. If they do not show in the device manager, then there is most likely a hardware failure and they may need to be replaced or check the connection.
