Those machines use the incoming water temp to start and then boost it, so check the incoming water temp. If it is too low then you need to increase it. It could be the heater that is not working but you need to check the incoming water temp first.

Washer only fills on rinse like it is on small load no matter what you put the selector to. This is only on rinse< wash works normal

If it is the whirlpool low water high efficiency washer purchased in the last 3 years. That's how it works. On the lid some models even show a picture to explain this or also look at the owners manual.

I pull the knob to do a regular wash and nothing happens, no water no agitation. However, when I turn the knob to rinse it that works. This suddenly happened, was working before. Is it the knob?

Rinse on most washers is cold water your wash cycles can be cold hot and even warm. Problem You may have is a bad water feed valve Or Timer and possible bad wire harness at motor to timer
check water valve Turn washer to regular wash cycle pull knob on will washer fill ?
if water starts to fill then change washer temp if washer has this.
if water comes out on all settings water valve is fine.
Check the water both hot and cold that it is turned on;at faucet.
Your Kenmore Most likely has a bad water valve check for hot water side clog or not working.

I bought a brand new Hotpoint washer, model #HSWP1000M3WW. The water level for super size load during wash seems high enough. But the water level for the rinse is about a third of the super wash level. ...

I would check with the vendor that sold you the unit and see what they have to say or send an email to the Contact Us link on their website and ask. I am guessing no mention of the in your owners manual?

The cleaning cycle wont work.

Did you tried with different load?
It could be the control panel which is not to cheap.

I have a am-14 hobart washer. having problem with rinse temp indicator. it is fine for the wash then the temp gauge is jumping around, could it be the thermostat?

Your rinse temperature sensor that is a tiny probe in the water piping (top rear of machine) needs replaced. Hobart part # 00-294692. It costs about $84.

Stuck on rinse cycle

Your water valve is bad or the cold side of the valve is stopped up with sediment. Clean the water valve inlets. If that does not correct the problem, replace the water valve.

Washer is rinsing with hot wateer nomatter what temp. setting is used. I have tried to switch hoses twice now, no difference in rinse but now on correct wash temp.

The MAH5500 series washers have automatic temperature control functions so the washer can control water temp regardless of water heater settings and other factors. I would say either your definition of "hot" is not truly "hot" (over 110 degrees), or the washer's ability to sense has failed (which would also affect fill temp on "wash" fills also). If someone has worked on the washer recently, maybe they reversed the wiring to the water valves inside the machine? ATC temps are as follows: Cold 70-90, warm 90-110, and hot is unregulated at 110 degrees and up. These are normal temp ranges for ATC controlled machines, and are completely safe for fabrics.

Washer won't rinse, drain or spin.

My guess would be that you have a faulty timer if you can manually move it and the operation of the washer resumes.
