Lawnboy Commercial Mower - idle speed adjustment

Tank cleaned, new fuel line, filter clean, carb removed cleaned replaced. choke/throtle cable reconnected. single adjustment screw on carb fully seated then backed off half turn. Engine fired on first pull. Problem: engine runs fast, throttle adjust lever has no effect. adjust screw has little effect. Seems to me that govenor spring may be connected wrong? How to proceed? Shouldn't the speed control cable lever be able to reduce rpm significantly?

SOURCE: Engine only runs with choke full on. Dies when off full choke.

Hi Dave, it sounds crazy, but try this. Check your gas cap. It could be clogged, causing a vacuum to occur in the tank, and therefore not allowing the carb. to take on gas. It usually take 10-15 min. for this to occur. The next time you run the mower and it starts to stall out, loosen the gas cap and see if it begins to run again. If it does, then you know that the gas cap is clogged.

Typical carburetor low speed circuit is blocked but can be fuel or other. Likely needs carb adjust, clean and/or rebuild.

I have an Evinrude outboard motor which starts well however when I throtle up or put load on the motor it seems to starve for fuel. I put the choke on and the motor pickes up for a split second

Check, clean fuel filter. Check fuel pump for correct pressure, by opening and catching fuel in carbs. If carbs. are consistant with plenty fuel. You will need to clean carbs. Firtsly check for air leaks, by spraying carb cleaner on fuel lines from tank to carbs. If engine speeds up you found air leak

Toro GTS 6.0 hp idles up and down

Excess air or not enough air. Replace air filter. Spray outside of carb to clean & ensure choke movement is smooth. Water in gas may cause this also. Flush out tank, refill with fresh gas, always use Stabile.

Poulan 2375. Just replaced all fuel lines. Only stays running at greater than 1/2 choke. Have never had to adjust carb before. Maybe an air leak around carb? Easy way to check for that? Any suggestions or...

First I would start with the fuel filter, was that replaced too?, then I would make sure you have fresh gas and a new spark plug, Probably what I would suggest next is to pull your carb off and take apart and clean it with carb cleaner, most likely you will find dirt and possible small fragments from rotten fuel lines, partially plugging the inlet screen in carb, also your diaphram could be stretched, wouldn't hurt to pur carb kit in it while it is apart, I have just cleaned them before and been o.k. this should help you out

The unit is lean. rebuild the carb with a carb kit and check your fuel lines. If they are brown or discolored or brittle they need to be replaced. carb kits run approx. 11 - 18 dollars from your local dealer.

I have a 1987 commercial lawnboy walk behind mower that has stopped running. I gradually lost power over the summer and now it will not start. I have installed a new plug and filter earlier in the spring....

I would try and remove carb and clean it thuroughly. You can soak the parts in solvent or equivelant. The carb would be right after the air filter tube to the intake of engine.
