Gaggia MDF Electric Burr Grinder

The top canister is supposed to rotate to adjust the grind, but it has locked and won't turn. Is there a catch I need to find?...or, a simple way to disassemble it?

It could well be gummed up with years of coffee bean residue

Very simple to take apart. There are two screws holding the cannister. They are hidden under 5mm round rubber covers that you have to pry off. Then remove the two screws holding the plastic cover. Mark the position of the numbered dial relative to the brass burr assembly then remove it. Once exposed, you should be able to figure out why it is locked. Scrape away as much gunk as you can.

Take it all apart. You will find the big brass screw is full of fine ground coffee. Clean it carefully and put back together. I had this problem a year ago and cleaned it and added new burrs. Works like new!

I just disassembled and cleaned my Gaggia coffee grinder. When I turned it on to calibrate the burr plates it made a short grinding sound then stopped and now won't turn on

Take it apart again and check all the connections and switches, security shut-offs, and THE THERMAL SWITCH. A very small and cheap electronic device that takes and overload and will shut your system down, whatever it is. Very easy and quick to replace.

I have a Gaggia burr grinder, Brevetti Gaggia SA Model MDF, s/n 7262. The handle that you flick back and forth to let the grinds come out broke off inside the unit.fixable? 707=837-8916 Thanks Anne

Look inside the grinder, The lever is attach to a SPRING .
May be the lever is disconnected (unhooked) from the spring.

AND YES IS FIXABLE.

It cost you about $15-$30 for the parts.

How do you change the grind on a gaggia coffee grinder?

if it is everything in order you change the grind buy rolling the plastic container of coffee beans(container commands to upper burr holder. If it doesn't go easy than disassemble container and unscrew the upper burr holder, carefully when it comes out, you have some pins and springs from below. do not loose or displace them.

How can I clean my Gaggia burr coffee grinder?

For parts you can see, use an artists paintbrush. If you want to clean the internals, grind some panko breadcrumbs or raw rice grains, then run some coffee through it a few times before using.

Grinder is slipping.

  1. take out bean container
  2. disassemble 3 philips screws and take plastic out
  3. rotate the knob to try to get out the upper holder of burr. if it does not rotate than disasemble the knob and the gears(plastic big one is attached to upper holder of grinder, the other is together with knob.
  4. tru to rotate it manualy, with help of extra srews puted in gear holder holes.
  5. when you get it out, carefuly clean it, look for metal parts and stones(wich sometime comes with coffee)
  1. turn on the grinder and attach gently one marker to lower burr during spining. after you stop grinder, look if it is perfect circle marked in burr. if it is not than marked side is higher. you should consider getting it ok by putting adhesive paper under lower burr and check it again.
good luck and carefuly.

MDF very coarse grind

Several possibilities loom:

1. Same burrs for 25 years? don't be cheap replace them!

2. Dirt in the threads of the burr carrier, or the threads that recieve it?

How long should it take gaggia mdf to grind?

I'm not familiar with this exact model but the problem may be either packing in the unit...since it never worked...or that the beans have jammed the unit in such a way that none are feeding to the burr. Usually, there is a way to remove the top half of the burr after removing the beans. Brush out the area and reinstall. The instructions that came with the unit should be of value. By the way, on some of these units, if the cup isn't correctly placed, it may prevent the burr from receiving flow. Enjoy!
