Amana Packaged Gas Unit Not Blowing Cold Air

My unit's fan runs fine. It only blows room temp air (currently 79 in my house). The unit sounds like it tries to turn on but the motor sounds like it is stuck. Anything I can do to fix it or do I need a repair/replacement?

There may be a capacitor on the outside of the compressor that needs to be replaced. You would have to take it apart to see.

SOURCE: Fan runs but blowing hot air. Thunderstorm reset some breakers. I did reset the two breakers inside the house and one unit working fine, upstairs unit fan running but blowing warm air only. Box out

Sounds like your Capacitor is bad, or you had a wire burn off compressor terminal or capacitor. Way you can check capacitor is take cover off and see if looks swollen. Make sure to turn off power before taking panel off.

SOURCE: House HVAC Not Blowing

If the outside unit is running and the inside unit is not, probably a problem with the fan motor itself or its capacitor. If you have to have someone repair or replace the fan $200-$250 with parts, a capacitor for a service call and part $100 or so. Check it yourself first to see if there is anything obvious broken wire, hot connection, etc if you feel safe doing that. Turn the power off first. There is also a chance the thermostat could be the problem. Have you tried running the fan on the thermostat "fan on" setting?

SOURCE: Central air unit problem.......

Check your outside unit to see if fan is running. If it is running check to see if air is blowing out if not you have a bad capacitor. Some times if a capacitor shorts out the fan will run backwards and the line will get very hot same as if the fan is not running. Russ

SOURCE: unit not blowing cold air

you have a slow leak in your refrigerant and need to find the leak. you will have to get an AC repairman to come to your house and check it for leaks and fix the problem.

SOURCE: ac fan on, blowing air, but not cold

Check outside unit if unit and compressor are running feel the large line to see if it is cold. If compressor is running and line is not cold possible charge problems. You may have a capacitor problem outside. they go out quite often. You can change this yourself, Open up outside unit and the cap is the silver bullet with terminals out the top. Bad cap can cause compressor to not operate and also the fan. You need to clean the coil inside or at leat check the coil to see if it is clean. You can clean theis with a toilet brush do not go against the coil bit brush with the fins. You may need to call a service tech but try these options first. russ

I HAVE A CARRIER CENTRAL AIR, THE OUTSIDE FAN IS BLOWING INWARD AND WON'T SHUT OFF WHEN THE FURNACE SHUTS OFF AFTER TEMP IS REACHED

Check the t-stat to make sure that the "fan" switch is st to auto. If not the fan is in the "on" position and is always on. Otherwise, It sounds like your "Central Air" is a packaged unit(Furnace and air all one unit outside the home) and the fan relay inside the unit is stuck. This need to be replaced. It is the rectangular unit with the leads from the fan motor attached to it.

Blowing of cold air every 5 minutes, and it says FP on the screen

FP is the code for frost or freeze protection. The unit will automatically do this periodically to prevent any damage caused by low temperatures although it should not be running as frequently as every five minutes. If the outside temperature is not low then it could either be a problem with the exterior thermistor (not the one you see from inside your room) or the control board could be on its way out.
