Sulphur smell : risk of explosion / fire / Meltdown ?

Hello community, this morning I plugged again my APC Back-UPS 650 after two days of inactivity; it rapidly spread some heavy and very disturbing sulphur smell. It stills (after 1 hour) emanate this horrible thing after I unplugged and tried to push the power off button. The "On battery" LED keeps an orange state even after I unplugged everything. I put the thing outside on my balcony, but I don't know what to do with it; is it going to stink for eternity? :D And, is there any risk in this situation? In advance thanks for any advice. Clement E.

The smell is sulphuric acid boiling in the battery in the unit. It is getting more the the required 14 volts ( probably full line voltage) so I would junk it as it will cost more than it is worth to repair. Do not use it and any fluid that is coming out will be highly corrosive so be carefull

SOURCE: APC ES-350 won't turn on; all I see is a blinking light.

Try looking for a small circuit breaker on the side that says "press to reset" - you could have tripped it accidentally when you unplugged the iPod.  Also, try pressing and holding the UPS power switch for 10-15 seconds.  That should force a power on as well.

SOURCE: On line and on battery LED is blinking simultaniously

Sound like you may have a problem with the new battery.
Check the water level on the new battery.
Check all your connection and if you are still having the same problem, Try removing the existing battery and jump of your car battery.
You can do this without the computer on line and will tell you if your existing battery is at fault.
P.S. You must disconnect the existing battery to do this test.
Good luck.
I have used Tractor battery's from H/D, cost about $24.00 and will do as good a job. Only problem is the size.

My apc back ups es 650 has a continous chirp what doe that mean?

the chirp means a power event has occurred and the unit needs reset to continue operation , power events can be a few things ( to large a current was applied as a load to it , the power stayed off till battery failed and it had to charge it back up when power comes back on )

I want to use the apc 650 pro to run on my 900 watt generator.I will be pulling about 400 watts, will this smooth out the voltage from my generator to my radio? Is there anything I must do to use the apc in...

the battery back-up will smooth out the voltage, You will definitely need a battery in or else it will beep nonstop and drive you batty! the APC should have surge protected outlets already built into it. And since you will be using it outside of a computer environment, im guessing on a worksite, there will be nothing extra you need to do besides plugging it in. I would suggest plugging it into a stable voltage for the first hour or so to allow it to charge the battery.

Need information

The Back-UPS is fairly straight-forward. The 9-pin connector (at the top of the back) is a serial port (RS-232) for the UPS data (when connected to a computer it will shut down the computer safely during a power outage). The next plugs are RJ-11 telephone jacks; the cord from the jack (wall) goes in on the left (some models have RJ-45 for network protection). The battery protected outlets are the three surrounded by black paint. The other three provide surge-protection only. Do not plug items like printers and scanners into the outlets that provide battery protection.

I hope this helps.
