Often when you think an LCD is bad it is the inverter board. This is even more likely when you get a red or pink glow. Either way if you compare the price of a new LCD ($100-$200) to an inverter board ($15-$35) it is worth trying. Worst case you will have a new inverter board and still have to buy an LCD or you may be able to resell the inverter board. I just had a Toshiba Satellite that was dropped and had no glow at all. I purchased an inverter board for $30 and replaced it and it fixed the problem. No cracks in the LCD and it looks great. Of course if you see a crack in the LCD that is a different issue.

The indications that the power supply is going is when you start noticing flickering and sound like shorts when you watch TV...

It is most likely one of the transformers on the inverter board. They are rectangular in shape and there are 8 of them. Replacing the inverter board usually fixes the TV. db
