There should be four bolts holding the cover on that houses the pull cord assembly take the bolts out look inside you should see the rest of the broken cord at the other end there is a spool that the cord rolls up in to pull the cord until it stops the other end of the cord is a not in the cord pull on the knot the broken peice should come out turn the spool 2 times in the direction that is against the pressre while holding the spool in place feed the new cord in through the whole that you pulled the broken cord out of then tie the cord in a knot wind the rest of the cord up then feed the other end of the cord through the new pull handle tie the cord in a knot put the housing back on

Pull cord engaging

recoil clutch fingers are broken or stuck. Take the recoil cover off and look at it while pulling the cord to see if the fingers arent coming out. If the fingers are still coming out then you have worn out grooves on starter cone where fingers engage to turn the motor. If the recoil is damaged a new one can be purchased as a unit from Troy Bilt online for a reasonable price.

Are you holding the emergency stop lever? If you were operating the mower with your hands on the handle, there is a separate lever that you are expected to hold together with the main handle. You have to hold these two handles together to start and to operate the mower. Good luck.

I have a Troy Bilt 675 lawn mower, won't start.

is the gas in the tank old? if so, try to drain it and put fresh gas in. Pull the spark plug to make sure it is not fouled and replace it or put in a new one. Check to make sure that you do not have the mixture or choke set to run too rich or too lean. If you are at an altitude above 2,500 feet you need to run more lean to compensate.

Starting issues. Can't pull cord.

Make sure your flywheel brake is not engaged or the cover is hindering the mechanism somehow after it is installed

Replacing pull cord on troy built mower model # 8654r 4hp

Remove the housing covering the clutch. The cord spool can then be accessed. Replace the cord. Be careful that you maintain the proper spool spring tension. Check operation before reassembling
