I've got some rare 80s movies on VHS that are not available on DVD. I want to transfer these movies to DVD, but my VCR/DVD combo unit will not allow me to burn a copy-protected VHS movie. Is there any way...

as i recall VHS cassettes have a hole on front (where is the label with name of movie ) which disables re-recording over original movie. if that isn`t the problem, you can try with connecting your VCR to PC inputing audio and video cable to PC. requirements for this recording from VCR to PC is that PC has graphic card with audio-video input.

Is it possible to convert their old Video 8 movies to digital? If so, how do I do and what equipment do I need?

Hi. Yes, especially since it sounds as if you may still have your Video 8 camera, but if not then get one on eBay etc. - you could always sell it back when finished.

I think you may want to record the movies in another form, e.g. DVD, so they can be played more easily on PC or TV.

If so, a VCR or DVD recorder would still do the job but it would be best to play the movies with the Video 8 camera plugged into a DVD/Hard drive recorder. This would best allow editing before later saving onto DVD from the hard drive.

You could get video capture software to record the movies onto PC but I have not tried this and think it might prove more complicated.

Just purchased an acer aspire one, can get movie from external dvd play playback on media player & power dvd 8 but not sound. sound plays on cds & everything else, plays on movies downloaded online...

AVS DVD Player is a free universal player that I put on all Acer Ones that I sell. It is an excellent player, that can go full screen and handle every format. It will even play VOB files which are dvd files "ripped" from dvd discs. I have never had a failure with this program....

Power won't stay on, can't get dvd out

One of the motors in the mechanism died making a near short circuit. When the DVD tries to energize the motor, a lot of current passes through the circuits making the PSU protection to shut down the power supply to avoid damage or fire.
To get the movie out, you'll have to disassemble the DVD player and remove the disk. After that the DVD will be unusable because of the failing motor. The replacement often is more expensive than buying a new Chinese DVD player.

Dvd x copy 2002-2003 versio 3:2:1

Sounds like you may have been ripped off. The following paragraph may explain your dilemma:
"DVDXCopy was once the world's best selling copying software, but after being banned for sale in 2003, authentic versions of 321 Studios software are no longer available. Some websites are still selling selling fake "DVD X Copy" Software for $29 or less, but they are not genuine 321 Studios software products." -- SOURCE

All dvds skips evan brand new ones

Return the unit to the store which you purchased it from. You have an internal problem with the scanner (led) You can first try to clean the led this could be your problem. They sell lens cleaning dvd disks. try it, you have nothing to loose. If this does not work, just bring it back.
