My Hotpoint CSX20E, side-by-side is about 19 yrs. old. It is starting to freeze foods in the fresh food bin and meat bin at the bottom of the frig. I removed the insulation strip at the bottom of the frig - on the back, bottom - and vacuumed away any dust and replaced the insulation. I also removed the panel on the front, bottom and cleaned there. I turned the thermostats down for both frig and freezer. to their lowest settings. So far, the freezer is still freezing satisfactorily, but I am still having the problem of freezing in the refrigerator compartments. My lowest temp. setting is "1" but there is still room on the dial between "1" and "off" to dial down. I've not tried lower. Is there still hope for my refrigerator or is it time too shop? Thanks, in advance, for your response. Sheila
Check the air dampers at the bottom of the fresh food section. They may have been moved to a open position. If so close them up some.
Otherwise the cold control thermostat may need to be replaced.

Side by Side ModelsIf foods, such as fruits and vegetables, in the refrigerator are freezing, it can be caused by several things. First, check the controls. They should be set at "C" and "5" or "5" and "5". The proper fresh food temperature is between 38 and 42 degrees Fahrenheit. The freezer should be between 0 and 8 degrees Fahrenheit.
If food in the bottom of the refrigerator is freezing, this could be caused by a refrigerator not having enough food to absorb the cold air.
If food in the door is freezing, move the door bins up or down so they are one notch away from freezer vents (Side by Side models only).
The fresh food control should be at the normal setting of 5.
Freezer on Top Models First, check the controls. They should be set at "C" and "5" or "5" and "5". The proper fresh food temperature is between 38 and 42 degrees Fahrenehit. The freezer should be between 0 and 8 degrees Fahrenheit.
Since the cold air coming into the fresh food section originates in the freezer above, the rear of the top shelf will be the coldest spot in the fresh food area. Avoid placing delicate items that freeze easily on the back half of this shelf.
If food is freezing in the produce (fruits and vegetables) or meat pan, it may be that the temperature controls are not set high enough. Since cold air naturally falls, the pans can get too cold if the refrigerator is not running long enough to maintain good air circulation. Adjust both controls up one notch.
could be drain holes blocked or both temp sensors gone at same time ?? hardly.also have you tried a full manual defrost (no hot water) sometimes works for me
Good day,
This problem appears in spades this time of year, every year.
The problem becomes more severe when the temperatures in the house cools down and is made even worse if the usage of the machine becomes lighter.
It occurs when the machine is off, not on.
There is an open vent, near the bottom, between the freezer compartment and the fresh food compartment. This opening or vent is necessary when the machine is running, so that the air pumped into the top of the fresh food section, can return to the freezer compartment. This is by design.
Now,
When the machine is off, the zero degree air from the freezer compartment. can drift into the fresh food compartmnet and drop the temps near the bottom to below freezing.
Off time increases substantialy at this time of year.
Some have even recommended turning the controls colder to offset the problem, but I've no proof it works well, or even a little.
SXS and top freezer models experience it more than bottom freezer models.
Turn your thermostat down. If all the rest of the food was even 45 degrees, it would be okay. The vetable and meat drawers will always be colder, so you set the level for the rest of the fridge at what is tolerable.
Inside your refrigerator is a control on left side of the panel. Try to adjust there and try to close the dampers near the lower drawer bins. If that don't work change the temp a little higher in the fresh food compartment. But closing the ducts should do the thing. Let me know, Thanks Sea Breeze
#27 below in pic try ajusting the air coming into fresh food compartment. [email protected]
You have a defective thermistor and damper control in the fresh food or a bad control board.
Check the thermistor first.
Also, adjust the return air damper at the bottom left side of the fresh food sction to warmer.
look under your refridgerator and see if there is alot of dust on the coils. Whenever food starts freezing in my fridge I vacuum the coils and the problem goes away.
