Pen drive access denied

USB ports and devices make connecting to another computing device convenient.
USB technology has been around since 1996, and is a feature found on most modern computing devices.
If your device is denied access to one of its USB features, do some troubleshooting to isolate and resolve the problem.
Viruses
Some computers come with a security feature that automatically denies access to a USB device, such as a flash drive, if harmful content is detected.
Installing an anti-virus software application and regularly scanning the computer and any connected USB devices can help you avoid experiencing denied access to a USB device.
Avoid opening USB flash drive files that you cannot identify or do not recognize, as these types of files are how viruses find their way onto unprotected computers.

Incompatibility

Inserting an incompatible device into your computer's USB port can also cause you to be denied access to your device's USB features.
For instance, if your computer supports USB 1.0 technology and you insert a USB 2.0 or USB 3.0 connector, the computer can experience interfacing problems that may cause a "USB access denied" prompt or situation.
If other USB devices begin to malfunction after inserting an incompatible USB cable into your computer, turning the computer off and back on again may resolve the situation.

Formatting
USB flash drives, also known as pen or thumb drives, are among the most common types of USB devices used in conjunction with computers.
Most USB flash drives are formatted using one of three types of formatting methods: FAT16, FAT32 or NTFS.
If you've formatted a USB flash drive using one method, used it on the computer and then reformatted the drive using another method, you can be denied access to the flash drive through the computer's USB port.
Wiping the flash drive clean and reformatting it again can resolve this type of problem.

Considerations

Many computer accessories, including printers and pointing devices, connect through the machine's USB ports and can interface interchangeably with multiple computing devices.
This feature increases the risks of picking up viruses and experiencing unauthorized reformatting. Limiting the amount of computers your USB devices accesses can help you avoid these situations.
Damaged USB cables can also make it impossible to access USB devices when they are connected to your computer.
USB cable damage usually occurs at the points where the cable and its connectors meet. Replace any damaged USB cables.
You have to be the computers administrator to change any values on any hard drive on your computer.
Click start control panel user accounts on the users tab click the name of the computer Administrator you must have full control.
Click start click to open on my computer you should see your usb drive could be E: or something right click select properties there will be an array of options
select the sharing tab option then advanced sharing make sure you have a tick in the share this folder box then click permissions make sure you have all 3 boxes ticked full control changes and read in windows 7
If you are running a Windows XP OS then you might be able to:
Click start right click on my computer select open
Right click the icon of your Flash Drive (It should be F:/ or something)
Click Properties in the menu that comes up
Click the Sharing tab
Click permissions
And finally, click Allow next to Full Control.

Problem with ASUS P5QC Motherboard, cannot detect any usb device (hard discs). The lights on the devices show that there is power, but Windows 7 cannot 'see' them. Keyboard, mouse and usb stic

If same usb port work with other devices then suggest to check the disk management first then device manager. If it is not listed in disk management or you are not able to access it then open device manger and check under disk drives. If it is not listed in device manger then I suggest to test the external harddisk on another PC. If that also fails then you either have a bad hard disk.

My ASUS F5SL laptop doesn't recognize my flash drive. It recognizes my mouse, my mp3 player but won't recognize my flash drive pen or my psp. Can, please, someone help me? I'm running Wind

have you tried different usb ports? hit the windows key and the R key at the same time and type diskmgmt.msc and go into disk manager and see if the flash drive shows up in the list of disks installed.

Cant access windows due to submitting a new password, the numbers lock is on and i think that is the reason why i cant access windows, really need to know how to turn it off, can someone please help

You can use some Windows password Recovery Tool 3.0 to reset your password:

1. Login to a computer that can link to Internet. Download " Windows Password Recovery Tool 3.0 " and install it on that PC. Note that: there is a .ISO file. Burn the .ISO file to a CD or a USB flash drive.

2. Get out the newly created CD/USB and insert it to the locked computer.

3. re-booted the locked computer (it's necessary for you to change your computer's Setup to make it boot from CD drive or USB drive) and then followed the process of instructions. Just a few steps, the old password was removed.

4. Setting new password.

Hi there, It sounds like your problem is that you haven't hooked up your front USB ports to your motherboard. If you open up your computer case, you should notice some cables coming down from the front USB ports. Those cables need to be attached to USB headers on your motherboard. You should check out your motherboards manual to see where the pins for the USB headers are, and then hook up the cable. My guess would be that no USB device works via the front panel, but after hooking up these cables all devices, including your external hard drive, will. If you need more help/clarification, let me know please! Alex

ASUS P5KPL-AM SE MOTHERBOARD, CAN'T ACCESS BIOS SET UP, USB DEVICE DETECTED OVER CURRENT STATUS, SHUT DOWN IN 15 MINUTES

Hello Sutil, this error unfortunately can caused by several factors. One of the easier ones to check for is whether or not one of the USB chords for some reason isn't working properly inside your computer. To test for this, I'd try these three tests. #1) Only use USB devices plugged into your back panel (behind the computer), and then boot up the computer and see what happens - #2) Only have USB devices plugged into the front panel (in the front/top of the computer) - #3) Try unplugging all your USB devices and then booting it up, this may cause issues due to the fact that you may lose your keyboard if it's a USB device, but helps find the problem. If you find out that it's only the front or back panel you can adjust accordingly. Another very common problem that can cause this error in Asus motherboards is that the screws holding the motherboard are too tight. If and only if you are comfortable opening your computer and loosening up the screws, then I would recommend doing that. (Warning: Make sure you ground yourself before working inside your computer, to avoid static electricity). Hopefully this solves your problem, have a great day Sutil!

Problem with USB port on Asus P5KPL-AM SE Motherboard

Older motherboards have USB 1.1 ports;
newer motherboards have USB 2.0 ports,
which are over 10 times as fast.

It is Windows (not your motherboard) that should do the "Plug-and-Play" thing for devices connected to your USB port(s).

Note that some devices are USB 2.0, and will *NOT* work when plugged-in to a USB 1.1 port.

Either get a newer motherboard, or get a PCI add-on card that adds USB 2.0 ports.
