Troy-Bilt Horse XP, Model 13bx79kt011 - Won't Move

I have a brand new Troy-Bilt XP Horse, model 13bx79kt011. The mower starts up fine, the blades spin fine. But the mower won't actually move, neither forward or reverse. I have the hydrostatic transmission bypass pushed in, which according to manual is to engage it. The mower just doesn't move. It appears the mechanics of the speed lever work (it moves). I think the mower works fine, I am just missing something stupid. Any ideas?

You need to check the belt to the hydro units is connected properly and is tentioned and not slipping in the pilleys

That was it. I don't know why, but when the Parking Brake is engaged the Idle Pully is moved so far that the drive belt slips off another pully. Thank you for your help

SOURCE: Riding only on an old

Depending on which Craftsman riding mower you own, there are a number of problems that could cause the mower to no longer move:

  • Make sure the hydrogear bypass rod is fully engaged.
  • Jack the back up and see if either wheel free spins, one of the axle keys may have given out.
  • Inspect the traction belt that drives the transmission. If it's on all the pulleys and is not damaged, there may be a problem inside your transmission. That belt should be tight unless you have the clutch/brake pedal depressed. When you depress the pedal, it moves a pulley away from the traction belt making it loose so it does not drive the transmission. The traction belt runs from the engine pulley back to the transmission pulley. Usually through a series of idler pulleys. Sometimes this belt is hard to see because it is above the belt that drives the mower. It sounds like something is causing this belt to be loose. If not, the problem is probably inside the transmission. The belt could be broken, damaged, loose, or has come off a pulley. Also, the pulley that moves when pedal is depressed may be stiff and not returning to tighten belt.
  • Check the drive belt, and in particular the nylon/plastic idler pulley (near the transaxle) that tensions the belt. If the drive belt is an older belt, replace it. A stretched belt can cause the symptoms that you stated.
  • Make sure that all the springs connected to the pulleys are there and not broken.

SOURCE: Mower will not move.

It is very likely that your belt is not on right. Check your manual to see it it is on right.

SOURCE: I have a cub cadet model 1420 with hydrostatic

i had exmark hydros i was told to never wash them, the water does more damage than good. have you checked or changed your hydostatic oil and filter latley? if you have, when doing that you have to be very careful not to get any foriegn objects in the oil resevoir, dirt, grass clipings, anything will ruin the hydro pump.

SOURCE: hydrostatic lawnmower doesn'i want to move

There will not be any actual adjust in the unit, there will be some adjustment in the rods from the hand/foot lever, if you can see the arm moving freely on the unit when you work the foot/hand lever it is probably not a linkage problem, if there is an external brake disc, make sure the brake is not binding, finally somewhere on the unit will be a bypass lever for push mode, make sure this has not been engaged.

Brand new Troy-Bilt XP Horse, model 13bx79kt011 - Won't Move

Confirm the park brake is off. If a hydro-static drive tractor starts but engagement of the operator controls for the transmission drive results in neither a forward or reverse drive of the mower itself, the operator should check that the manual bypass controls have not been left in the activated (bypass) position.

Look in to where the lever connects and confirm the movement. You should be able to hear the hydraulic oil with a slight whine as you activate the drive forward pedal!
See page 18 for bypass setting?

Troy-bilt riding mower won't move in forward or reverse

I had a similar problem with my TroyBilt 50 inch zero turn mower. Was cutting grass when it stopped going either forward or backward even though it would start and the PTO would move the cutting blades. Turned out the tensioner spring for the belt that drives the motors near the rear wheels had gone missing. Searched the yard where I had cut and moved the machine but couldn't find it. A new one cost me about $7.50. Put the new one on and it worked fine.

The pull start cord will only move about 3-4 inches and then it stops and then cord stops, Troy built- Briggs/Statton 21 inch self-propel lawnmower.

The mower's drive shaft may need to be lubricated. If you turn the mower over and try to move the blade by hand (with the mower off, of course) does it move, or is it hard to move? If it's hard to move or it won't move at all, lubricate the shaft by squirting some WD-40, 3-In-1, or other lubricating oil onto the drive shaft where it meets the chassis of the mower. Squirt enough oil to cover the circumference of the drive shaft, then try to spin the blade again. It should at least spin a little bit now. Squirt some more oil and spin the blade again, until the blade spins easily. Then turn the mower back over and try to pull the start cord -- it should pull normally now.

I have a Troy-Bilt Briggs and Stratton 675 series lawn mower. The pull cord is stuck and will not move. I can lightly pull the cord repeatedly and the cord slowly allows me to pull more but if I release it...

Take the plug out and try to move the blade. If the motor won't rotate, the problem might be with the motor and the cord can't move because of it.
