Dell Vostro 1510 Laptop; cant get anything on the screen

The power all seems fine but but then the lights at the top of the keypad (number lock, cap lock, shift) go weird. The number lock (button with a a lock and a number in the middle) starts flashing. The screen doesnt do anything and is just black.
Ive tried holding function and the number lock button down...screen is completely dead.

Same thing happened to me.
I stumbled on this link and the solution made sense to me.
http://en.community.dell.com/dell-groups/new-to-community/f/3511/t/19323146.aspx

What I did was to nudge in the Hard drive to make sure it wasn't loose and press down slightly on the processor even though it didnt feel loose.

Worked for me. Though I'd help someone else since someone else 's post helped me.

Try reseating the ram modules, see if any difference. IF not, try them one at a time. If issue occurs with only 1 ram module, replace that RAM. If any conbination of RAM causes issue, of if no ram will work in 1 slot, then replace the motherboard.

1. Remove RAM (or RAMs) , clean it and then replace it, if your problem solve that is good and if not:
2. Graphic Chip In Main board not work properly and must be replaced (or Reball) in a laptop repair center. (if your laptop has age longer than 3 or 4 year this problem is normal in vostro 1510). also you can replace your Main Board.

Press power button nothing comes up on screen, however, the num lock icon lights up and flashes, the caps lock icon also lights up. Dell Vostro 1510.

Copy and paste this link into your internet browser for the service manual for your laptop.
http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/vos1510/en/SM/html/trouble.htm#wp1092170
The star icon (*) means flashing LED, the bold circle means on, the circle within a circle means off.
The LED's that they are referring to are the NUM, CAPS and SCROLL.
It appears that you have a problem with your LCD. Try connecting an external monitor to your laptop. If you get a display then your LCD display panel needs to be replaced. If no display then your motherboard needs to be replaced.

My dell vostro 1500 laptop doesn't boot up the battery and ac power source is fine, what happens is that the only light or noise that comes form it is that the caps lock blue light indicator flashes for...

it sounds like your ac adapter has burned out and won't charge anymore. That's very common... that's why they are so cheap on ebay. Either that or your power plug on the motherboard is cracked or loose at the motherboard (2nd most common) and last bad motherboard (don't assume this unless last resort.)

Screen went black, but still on...turned it off...now won't start up.

All Dell laptops have a similar design flaw (in my opinion). The socket where the power cord plugs in to the laptop is probably loose. Use a toothpick or something to check it. Don't use anything metalic. If the socket moves easily then it has probably come loose from the motherboard. You may want to take the laptop to a computer repair shop to have the power socket soldered back to the motherboard. If you have the knowledge you can do this yourself but I don't suggest it. Laptops have a LOT of small parts. Hope this helps! Thanks!
