SOURCE: jvc car cd/radio

The radio was improperly installed; there are two 12V leads, one services the radio when on, the other, only the circuitry for the clock and presets.
Eventually, this shouldn't be needed if the manufacturers ever think about using a little bit of flash memory for the presets and a coin cell for the clock.

You didn't give any model number so researching the manual is impossible.
If you can find the model number, look for a user's (or installation) guide on line to find the wiring info.

hi girlygirl 1

the problem is your ignition and your permanant battery live wires are the wrong way round all you have to do is remove the stereo and you will usually see a red wire plug into another red wire and a yellow wire into another yellow wire all you have to do is change the red to the yellow and the yellow to the red and it will hold the memories fine hope that helps !

Each time I start the engine, my Hyundai i30 radio reboots itself. Has been updated (firmware). If necessary Hyundai will replace the radio. Will this solve the issue?

Maybe, Also get the battery stress tested for impending failure.

The radio keeps its presets by a constant 12V connection not cut off by removal of the key. The current draw is only tiny.

In our car we had this fault and it was it was in the radio proper. However the auto electrician we asked said that in some cars a dying battery will drop to maybe 10V on a cold morning, and the radio is intolerant of it.

So it could be either. If the battery is less than say 3 years old it should be OK.
