Ay to be sat nav

If you have a multimeter test there is voltage at the cigar lighter in the dashboard. Try a different gadget in it as the issue could be the sat nav not the cigar lighter.

There's a fuse in the plug you put into the lighter socket check it out

should power up all the time

sales pitch doesn't mention a short life battery
can t find a user manual for that one

unplug it after a while if it wont function then it may not have a battery feature

you have'nt mentioned the vehicle model, year etc , if very old could well be that the heated cores have burnt out, if newer then i would try a auxcillary component plugged into the lighter socket eg a Sat nav, to check for power to the socket and take it from there

check your fuses cigar lighter and data link connector are usually on same fuse, if it keeps blowing fuses there is a sort somewhere

How long have you had it for? The thing with batteries is that they are best charged fully and used till the battery is empty and then recharged which doesn't suit sat navs. Can you you get it to turn on at all as i doubt you could replce the battery

internal battery. Replace that and see if that sorts it. Im assuming you have fully charged it? If you leave it plugged into the mains or your car cigar lighter does it turn on then? It should do-if its the battery.

I too just got mine from Santa... it's designed to operate while plugged into the lighter. It also charges the Li ion battery. If the Garmin screen comes on while you are using it I would suspect an error or what ever. (you DID move the little switch on the top left corner to unlock didn't you?) Just call their number 800 800-1020 and ask them. They were most helpful and were there well after the hours posted in the instruction book.
