Pump is blowing cloudy water back into pool

This year when I opened my pool I put new sand in and went about it as usual trying to vacuum and balance my chemicals. My problem is that no matter how much I backwash, it is putting cloudy water back into the pool. When I rinse the water is clear, but it never clears when I backwash it and then shoots cloudy water back in. I have had this pool for over 10 years and never had a problem like this before. HELP!!!

If sand filter is over ten years old as well, it's possible your "fingers" (not the ones on your hand) have cracks and holes in them , allowing sand and dirt to go right thru the filter back to pool , they make fancy tinted sand to test for this , but the lo tech easy way to ck it is add new sand to inlet of filter while catching a sample in a old pair of nylon hose on the discharge if you get sand in your hose "trap" your internal fingers have broken , contact mfg of filter for replacements

Cloudy water is the bane of sand filters!. I suggest letting filter run day and night. Do not backwash until the pressure rises 8 - 10 pounds above clean starting pressure. Do not try to vacuum or stir up the sediment. when water clears, vacuum to waste. Keep the hose running while vacuuming. A dirty filter is a better filter (up to a point). At a higher pressure the filter will trap more of the fine particles that are clouding your water.

So the pump has been running since yesterday morning and I see no difference in the water at all and it is still blowing cloudy water back into the pool. The pressure hasn't changed either. Any other suggestions?

Ph level is at 'ideal' chlorine level is at 3.0 but the pool water is still cloudy. Please help?

The cloudiness could be suspended particles or algae. Use an algae k i l l er as recommended, then a flocculant (water clarifier) as recommended, then vacuum the pool bottom and run the filter overnight.

After that check the ph, alkali level, chlorine level, and adjust as needed. That should do it.

I have a sand filter and my levels say ideal but water is real cloudy after adding chlorine

Take a sample to a pool shop and find out. If the pool has been green you may have dead algae floating around, a sand filter will never take that out. You need to flock it or new water. Then there is the toy you call a sand filter, OK when everything is perfect but small filters and pumps just won't handle a very dirty pool.

We have a hayward sand filter model sp 711 13 for our vinyl lined pool. We are having alot of trouble getting the pool to clear up. When we opened it for the season, it cleared up great and was running...

How long is it since the sand in the filter was changed? How long has it been installed? If the water is clean but cloudy, get some kind of flocculant from your pool supplier. Follow the instructions carefully as your pool will need to be bavkwashed on a frequent basis.

Water comeing out cloudy and makeing suds in pool

There could be a few things causing these problems. How old is the sand in the filter? Filter sand looses its filtering ability after 3-5 years and needs to be replaced. If the sand needs to be replaced, make sure you get actual pool filter sand. A lot of big box and home improvement stores sell play sand as filter sand. That will cause your pool to stay cloudy and never clear up. If the sand is less that 3-5 years old, you may need to clean it with a liquid filter cleaner that is poured through the skimmer. This works quite well!

Another issue causing the cloudiness and bubbles could be the type of chemicals you are using. I know that shock from big box and home improvement stores cause the water to be cloudy. Algaecides from these stores also cause foaming.

Let your filter run for a couple days, you will get the undisolved solids out of the water.

Cloudy water is junk floating in the water. "Super Blue" is a product I use to make the junk stick together to be collected by the filter.

Pressure doesn't last & seems to blow out cloudy, dingy water

if you are on city treated water, sand will last aprox. 7 years, if on well water typically 3 - 5 years. so yes, could be a sand issue. also, double check that the there is no water trickling out the backwash / drain outlet of the filter, this could indicate that the diverter valve gasket (spider gasket) could be worn and cause sand from the filter to flow to the pool. this is a common problem if you move the position selector often with the pump still running - the pump should always be off when moving the handle. good luck!

You may have to change the sand if you never have. Or if it's not too bad you can "clean" it. When you removed the plug form the pool, there should actually be two parts. This first part threads directly into the filter, and has a screen on it to hold back the sand. The second one is the plug. This is the only part you should remove, except when changing sand etc. Even if the pool filter is working you can have cloudy water. See you pool supply, and try a floc to help settle dissolved solids in your pool. You add this, run the pump awhile to mix, turn pump off overnight, and then vacuum everything next day. Then turn pump back on.

Cloudy brown dirt getting in my pool from sand pump

The dirt you are getting is most likely from the air, dirt and dust present in rainwater and the small amounts present on human bodies. It is settling out and going to the bottom. I recomend a vacuum attachment that connects to your pump/filter to keep this cleaned out. Basically it "plugs In" to the outlet on the pool and will get all that out for you.
