I just bought this dehumidifier used and have never owned a one before so please excuse my ignorance on the subject. It looks new but I'm not sure if it is or not. I bought it as used. I have it set on the 3 hour setting but it isn't staying on. It switches on and off. Is it supposed to turn itself on and off every couple of minutes, about every 2 minutes? The fan is working and it doesn't feel real hot. Is it supposed to do that? PLEASE answer as this will drive me crazy not knowing. It is a Kenmore model 580.54501 if that makes any difference. If it isn't normal,Can you tell me what is wrong with it? Thanks, Patty
For sure this is an error and could be a fault in the heater panel or the motor drive.
Must remove out and check if the fault goes off on disconnection of one of the above.

It's your Relay Switch, it's either sticking or is stuck. The switch gets a lot of abuse whenever you empty the reservoir. You can try to reach into the area and bend the switch forward (pressing it back is what turns it on). Unless you know what your doing take it to be checked by a professional.
Ignore the first comment, Desiccant dehumidifiers do not have Freon, or a compressor...
The warning light coming on after a few minutes could be one of a few things (but probably most likely due to overheating or the detection of something not right in the unit operation. Most likely faults include:
1) failure of main fan motor (this would cause eventual overheat)
2) failure of heater blower motor (this would cause an overheat)
3) clogged desiccant wheel (restricting air flow and causing overheat)
Generally the warning lights only come on if an overheat occurs, If the heater has failed these units usually continue to run, albeit cold, and with no water being extracted.
Another culprit could be the water level cut of switch being faulty.
Turn the ON/OFF Switch to OFF and unplug the unit for 15 minutes. Once the time has elapsed, plug the unit in and turn the unit ON.
Hopefully,
during that 15 minute timeout, the electronics reset and reverted back
to the original factory settings. And the unit will turn ON when you
press the ON/OFF Switch.
It's also a good idea to check the
outlet it's plugged into. It very well could be an issue with the outlet
(no power) or the circuit breaker for that outlet has tripped.

You really answered your own question. The pump in the dehumidifier only has so much water lift capacity. By trying to run it up and out, you have exceeded the maximum lift capacity. Using a floor drain or even a bathtub drain in the basement will probably work, as long as the hose is not to long.* However, if you can use a floor drain, there's no need to use the pump function. You can use the continuous drain on the back of the unit. using the drain hose provided for that application.
*The 13 ft lift capacity noted in the Owner's Manual includes whatever length of hose you're using to get to the window. As there is some friction loss involved. But, they fail to point that out.
Hope this helps you and thanks for choosing FixYa.
I believe it is a water tank code. Re-seat the tank, unplug wait 15 seconds and replug the power cord and see if this resolves the error.
Background relating to other possibilities.
When the water bucket reaches its capacity, the bucket switch opens to shut off the dehumidifier. If the bucket switch fails while it is open, it will prevent the dehumidifier from running. To determine if the bucket switch is defective, use a multimeter to test it for continuity. If the bucket switch does not have continuity, replace it.
Take the unit outside and wash the coil out with a garden hose. Careful not to get water on the controls. Water will not hurt the motor or compressor as long as you keep it unplugged. Allow the unit to completely dry before running it again.
Two possibilities: 1. Continuous running and there is water coming out of the unit to the floor drain; the unit is just doing its job. It is probably just that there is that much humidity in the room; 2. the sensors are faulty or were bypassed during the repair - the sensor would be testing the water coming out, if there is water, the unit continues to work, if none, then it shuts off. Most would also have an overfill float switch, again which could be bypassed, that likewise control whether the unit will continue to run or stop.
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.
You can test the humidistat fairly easily, using a volt-ohm meter. Just set the meter to RX1 scale and attach its leads to the humidistat's terminals. Rotate the humidistat's knob as far as it will turn in both directions. If the volt-ohm meter registers zero ohms through only part of the humidistat dial's range, the humidistat is working. If it registers zero through the entire range, it's broken and must be replaced.
Dehumidifier Overflow Cutoff Switch Test-
Using a volt-ohm meter, you can tell if the overflow switch works or not. Clip the leads to the terminals on the switch. Depress the bar or trip lever on the switch. If the meter's needle doesn't show continuity and no continuity as the switch is clicked back and forth, the switch is probably faulty and will need replacement.
when turned on bucket full light comes on and unit shuts itself off.
