Counter balance / tone arm?

Records play for a split second before repeating bits of the songs, occasionally progressing in the song only to start repeating again. Not sure if this is a counter balance issue or how to fix it.

SOURCE: tone arm comes out and touches record, then goes back to cradle

See what kind of arm position sensing elements are used in your turntable (micro switches, optics or possibly other) and check if they work correctly - sometimes a microswitch can be damaged or have oxydized internal contacts or a badly soldered / broken wire and it will not function properly, causing the unit to stop automatically, the same might happen if the sensor is of optical type and there is some dust or broken wires or if the emmiter or sensor is damaged. Also, it could be a problem with the part that activates the switch / optics, it might be displaced or damaged.

If all sensors / switches seem to work well, then check the section which has wires going to those sensors / switches, it's the next probable location of the fault (it might be an electronic controller so there could be damage to some components, broken wires, dirty connectors or bad solder contacts).

It could as well be something else in the mechanisms, wiring or electronics, i just suggested a few things that might cause the malfunction you described.

Hope you can get it fixed.

The tone-arm on my turntable automatically stops too early. Is there any way to fix this?

Yes. you need to set the travel on your arm. I don't know your specific model but they are all the same concept. On the back by the pivot point there should be a small screw that you can adjust the travel before it returns.

My brandnew Songwriter is not playing records properly. When a quarter is placed on the tone arm, it plays fine. Is there an adjustment I can make??? Marilyn

I didn't see the tone arm balance adjustment in the user manual, however that is what needs to be done. At the rear of item #39, on page 10, is there a dial with numbers from 0 to 4 or 5? If so, set the dial to "0" to see if the tone arm will "balance" (like a see saw) If not, the dial assembly (which is a weight) needs to be slid either forward or backwards to achieve balance. After balancing, turn the dial to a number higher than 0 to increase tracking force..keep increasing the tracking force until it stops skipping, but no more than necessairy. To much force causes wear/damage to albums. If there is no tracking force adjustment on the tone arm, I would suggest contacting Crosley @ http://www.crosleyradio.com/Support.aspx
Hope this helps.

Sears Tape deck/Turn table skipping!

Hi the pennies will mess up the stylus. There should be an anti skate setting at the back of the turn table, a round adjustable bit with numbers, increase the anti skate and then use the balance weigth (weight right at the back of the arm that turns to get the weight right. Set the anti skate with the tone arm light, then increase the weight a bit. Hope that helps

2900 Keeps playing records

THE WURLITZER JUKEBOX WILL CONTINUE TO PLAY SONGS AS LONG AS ONE OR MORE, SELECTING PINS (THERE ARE 200 IN THE 2900 ONE FOR EACH SONG. THE PINS ARE IN LOWER SECTION OF THE CASE. BETWEEN THE SPEAKERS , AND LOWER DOOR.)
REMOVE LOWER BACK DOOR. WATCH THE ARM THAT STOPS ON THE NEXT RECORD, BECAUSE THE PIN IS UP. AFTER STOPPING ON THE PIN, THE ARM PUSHES THE PIN DOWN. THAT IS THE NORMAL OPERATION. IF THE PIN, IS NOT PUSHED DOWN, IT WILL PLAY THAT OR ANY OTHER SONG THAT HAS A PIN IS RAISED UP. THE PINS ARE THE MECHANICAL MEMORY FOR THAT JUKEBOX.
TURN OFF POWER, ==PUSH ALL PINS DOWN== THE SONGS WILL STOP PLAYING. THEN MAKE A SONG SELECTION. THE ONE PIN WILL POP UP THE MACHINE SHOULD PLAY THAT SONG.
WATCH THE ARM THAT STOPPED TO PLAY THE SONG, PUSH THE PIN DOWN. THAT IS THE SEQUENCE OF THE 2900 MACHINE,
WHAT CAN GO WRONG IS AS FOLLOWS. ==THE ARM DOES NOT PUSH PIN DOWN== THE ARM MISSES PIN== THE ARM NEED OIL, IT IS NOT LUBRICATED.==.

Arm does not track properly but skips across records

Just guessing, but it sounds like you haven't counterbalanced your tone arm.  When a tone arm skips, it's usually because there's too much counter weight on the rear of the tone arm.  You want between 3-5 grams, but first you have to calibrate your tone arm (balance it so you know where zero is).  If you don't know how to do this, refer to the Ion directions called "Tonearm Setup" in the instructions.

NSM Hit120 Jukebox.

there is an opto sensor the gets blocked when the tone arm is at the end of the song. It looks like a black u mounted on a circuit board. The flag that interupts the sensor is on the tone arm. The opto must be dirty so it thinks it's at the end of the song and continues to the unload sequence dispite the tone arm having just started playing.
