Acer AL1916W pluged into lap top but can't get both to run.

I have my Acer Al1916W pluged into the back of my lap top and I can not get this set up to run on both screens. When the Acer monitor is turned on it appears to work - the "acer" name comes up and then the words "no signal". As soon as no signal comes on the sceen it goes to black and the light turns orange. The Dell D610 screen runs just fine.

Thanks Stabelable, for the idea but I do a lot of power point presentaion for work so I did try the Fn F8 key (it is a Dell D610) to find the second screen but after many attempts I gave up.

I also tryed solution 2 from the box modder but this had no effect, but thanks for the tip.

Have you used the Fn button on your laptop and changed the video display Icon on the Blue Function keys. You need to change the display wait a few seconds for it to take affect. There are several modes try them all so you know how to use them.

How do I eliminate ripple effect on an acer AL1916W monitor

What is your refresh rate set to? At the desktop, with no windows open, right click the mouse and a dialog window will open. Click on properties, then the settings tab at the top, then another window will open. Click on monitor then at the bottom of the new window click on advanced. Check the refresh rate and change it to a lower rate and see what happens. You might even raise it. I hope this helps.

Monitor ACER Model AL1916W Problem

Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply, blown fuses, poor solder joints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.
