Question about Dewalt DW421 5'' orbital sander
The sander has been worked pretty hard and may be at the end of its life, but is there a replacement clutch or some other mechanism that could fail so the pad spins at about 20,000 rpm but no longer has the random orbital motion at all? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help. Doug

Need to replace the white circular flexible plastic part once you remove the black Velcro disk. A replacement came with my sander when purchased new. It had separate instructions indicating its a wear item and needs replacement if the sanding pad really speeds up when you lift it off the work piece. Also stated something about affecting its ability to capture dust.

Probably need to replace bearing 6202. I took mine apart, dissambled the retainer and used PB Blaster on the bearing. It seems to be a short term fix. At least it's not operating at hyper speed anymore. Long term, I probably need to replace the bearing and maybe a new lower retainer if I can't press the bearing out.
