    Same problem...

  • echoiowa May 08, 2008

same problem no screen nothing hasn't even been used that much.

  • scuba6388 Jun 06, 2008

yep, same problem, tried a soft reset as you cannot do a hard reset on the 145, and it didn't work. It's never been used and it doesn't even work. Anyone get theirs fixed?

  • Eric Potter Jun 07, 2008

    Same problem. Sometimes comes on.
Some times comes on if I turn printer off, then unplug power lead at rear (while still 'Live'. Wait about 20secs, then replug in and switch on.
Unfortunately this does not always work. Very erratic.
Would love to know dissembly instructions

Same problems here. Anyone figure out what to do yet?

  • flyingsilvia May 11, 2010

Thanks spindeepster. I tried the fix but it made no difference. The only line on my green screen is the box. My 145 prints beautifully, but the screen is a write off. I really don't think HP did themselves and favours with this. The printer has done very little work and the battery pack has never been used. I wont go HP again.

Hi All
I know there''s a lot of typing here, but just wanted to be thorough for those who may not be as handy at repairing. It really was quite simple and only took about 10 minutes.
My screen was only either blank or had black bars on top and sides of screen with all 8's in the centre of the LCD. I tried everything I found online to no avail, finally I got ********** & did what I usually do when things don't work...I took it apart (funnily enough it almost always does the trick)!

1-You'll need fairly small hex bits or allenkeys. There are 2 sets of screws both of different sizes of course.

2-Take the 2 screws from the bottom out first & that will allow enough leeway/gap to take the top silver panel off (surrounding the buttons & LCD).

3-You will find 2 more screws underneith this panel.

4-Once all 4 screws are out, you'll need a small flat-bit screwdriver or something that you can "pry" the plastic case off with. Of course I need not tell you to do this carefully so that you do not crack the plastic. There are a couple of plastic nibs to hold the plastic in place on either side of the tray, once you pry this off you will see the nibs in back.

5-Now, just pull the LCD screen straight out, it has pins that make it a plug of sorts...much like that of the old printer cables that plugged into the back of a desktop.

6-I simply blew onto the pins and into the plug-like holes in the event dust was impeding connection.

7-Then while viewing from the front of the printer I carefully lined up the pins & gently pushed until it was secure.

8-I then put the SD picture card from my camera in & turned it on before reassembling and...VOILA it worked!!

9-Obviously you put the screws back & when you are putting the top panel back on be sure to tuck the "finger-like" plastic nibs back in so as not to break them.

I hope this works for all of you!! I spent over 4 hours searching online, as I'm sure all of you did, only to find that many people had this problem with little answers.
Good luck to all of you...let me know how you do
Nicole

No guarantees here, but this worked for me. If you are attempting to use the printer as a stand-alone, do this. Using a standard USB printer cable, connect the printer to any computer. Turn the printer on. The computer should prompt a request for the disc containing the drivers to be installed. As I don't know where my disc is, I tried to skip the process. After clicking through one or two windows, I looked at the printer screen and it was functioning normally! Perhaps the computer reset something in the printer. Your results may differ, but mine is now working like new.

I downloaded the drivers to this printer to my laptop, and the printer is operating beautifuly. Along with the download came HP upgrades. If you choose to use the printer as a stand-alone, go ahead and do so, but do yourself a favor and run it from your computer from time to time.

  • Thanks Steve! This worked! I had thrown one out as I thought it was broken, I replaced it and then it happend again! My mum first found the solution in one of the guides you get with the printer but I will be damned if I can find it- that's why I looked on here! You can plug and unplug it all day- the problem is you have to do it a certain way to get it to work! A bit rubbish on HP's part but it is a good little printer!Hollie

Perform a soft reset per this HP link:

Hp Photosmart 145 printer charging pin broken

If the pin is pushed inside to one side use a small screwdriver (ones used for watches)  , you can push up underneath the pin and it will become straight enough for you to connect it , other wise you need to open up the camera and desolder the socket and buy another one and solder it , make sure you measure the diameter of it & keep it look on ebay for that connector of that size, if you can take a photo of it and upload it on flickr  and provide a link it might help a bit
