I unpacked and set up a new Sole E95 Elliptical machine. The assembly went without a hitch, but when I powered it up, the console displayed the message, "Ramp error -- press stop to enter idle mode." And, yes, the ramp won't go up or down. There are three wires and a small three-wire plug that need to be joined together to connect the front of the unit to the ramp motor and sensors in the rear. I checked that these are correctly plugged together. No joy.
Any help would be much appreciated as Sole hasn't bothered to call me back.
Ignore everything above - most of the time this is an easy fix. Usually, it happens with a brand new console, or a machine that has reset itself.
Hold down the incline up (on the console itself) button and the start button at the same time. Then follow the instructions on screen.
It will run through an initial calibration, and once complete, the ramp will now work. Just did this with mine, and my ramp is now working perfectly.
blahman, YOU are a RockStar!! This fixed my brand new E35.
My ramp had not worked for a year and tried this and it works perfect now, thanks!!!
Blahman I have a Precor 885 where the ramp doesn't move. Battery above 11.55, no error message, no motor noise what do I do?

I had the same exact error and resolved this simply by removing the incline Rail front cover (113) and disconnecting and reconnecting the three Motor Power lines listed in step 2.
Hello, I have now the sme problem....any suggestions how to change the circuit board and and how to get to it?
Thanks!
Thanks a lot for the quick info! Unfortunately, this Sole E95 is in Europe right now...I don't think, they have service guys out here. Yes, I just set it up and plugged it in. The ramp first worked and went to 8. Then when I tried a workout, it stopped and now, after repowering, just starts giving a sound, stops, the screen goes blank, and it gives the ramp error message. I wouldn't mind taking it apart if I get the necessary parts from Sole. I rechecked the wires to the motor and they seem ok. Boy, console, motor, board - that's a lot of parts to replace!
It's really a pain - thought Sole has a good reputation and it's the only elliptical besides Precore that offers ramping...bummer!

Yes. Exact same error. I am checking the cables again. But the couple of times I checked and re-checked, they appeared to be OK.beyond that I don't knwo what else to check.
Everytime I switch off the system and turn it back on, it raises (or appears to) the ramp by a notch. I had initially tried to raise the ramp to level 8 as per the instructions to install the middle cover.
Anybody, any advice?
Thanks for the suggestion -- it was a good and very logical one, but I'd already done exactly that. As it turned out, the problem was in the small printed circuit board (a power controller board) that the three wires lead to in the front of the unit. Replacing the board was kind of a pain. (It's not easy to get to.)
If you've just set it up, it's likely the repair is covered by warranty. If so, Sole will send someone out to fix it for free. If not, the circuit board it inside the front part of the machine attached to the bottom frame. It's a pain to get to. But a failure in that board is not the most likely cause.
Most likely, the cause is that the connection you made during set up between the wires from the ramp motor in the back and the wires to the controller board in the front of the unit isn't quite right. This connection is located between the rails of the frame just behind the big housing in the front of the machine. Check that the connections in all of the wires are good and that the colors of the wires match.
If it's not that, the next pieces Sole replaced were 1) the console at the top of the machine, 2) the ramp motor itself, and (finally, in my case) the lower control board.
Unless you like messing around with it, you'll likely need to get Sole to fix it. Sole will send you parts under warranty, so if you do want to work on it yourself, you can.
Hope this helps.
Yes, you're probably right about Sole service in Europe. Since the ramp motor moves, it doesn't sound like it's a problem with the connection or the wiring harness. You might try calling the Sole warranty folks and asking to talk to a technician. The people there can't connect you directly but they can ask a tech to call.
I did that and after being persistent someone who actually knew what he was talking about called me back. It let me eliminate a lot of alternatives and convinced me that, since they'd send someone for free, I should let a them fix it.
Hope this helps.
I have an E95. Worked great, sat unused for a long time, recently moved to another room and now get ramp error. Works fine otherwise, just incline and resistance don't work. I hear a couple clicks, front bottom but no motor sound. Went through calibration, it failed without motor noise. Took middle cover off to check wiring to motor, all good there on both connectors. Motor gets very hot, so it's getting power. Perhaps the "braces" the motor piston moves have seized, rusted? I'm thinking to unbolt one and see if the motor works pushing against no resistance. Any thoughts appreciated.
