On your computer: click on start all programs / programs check for the lexmark folder ( lexmark 5400 Series ) check if there is any application under it ( AIOC , Productivity Studio, or Imaging Studio ) If there is: check your firewall, this might be blocking the application list. If there's none: Using the disc: Start My Computer / Computer Open your CD/DVD drive where the lexmark disc is Open application folder Run Setup under application folder. This should update the software

Why its scan mode cannot retrieve application list?

When you use the scan function from the computer, the computer must have an application in stalled that receives and processes the scanned image. In other words their must exist and application that can open the file format of the scanned image (jpeg, pdf, txt or rtf, etc.). Several scanning software are available for free on the web freeOCR, paperscan, etc.
Your All in One must have shipped with some scanning software. Install it on the computer and use it to scan documents.

When you scan a document where on the computer do you find the scanned document

The scan destination on your computer may vary depending on the path that you set. This article in the Lexmark website on How to Scan Using the Lexmark X5400 Series All-In-One might help you understand the process. Notice Step 6 on Scanning a Document, that's the part where you set your preferred scan destination - either in your Documents folder, on the Desktop or your personal folder.
I hope this information has been helpful. Thanks.

You can download the Lexmark X5470 driver from the Lexmark website at http://bit.ly/aNFBAO. When scanning documents for editing, you will need the Lexmark OCR scan software which is only available in the installation disk. Printer stating cannot retrieve SCAN MODE APPLICATION FOR LEXMARK X5470

Hello. Here are some tips on how to remedy the problem. Check your firewall especially from third parties. Make sure to allow all Lexmark communications to go through. Also, try to check if the scan software is installed. If not, try to run the installation cd again to include the scan software. Hope this helps.

When I scan to a pdf with the Lexmark X5470, the PDF files are way to huge. How can I have them scan to a normal size?

The file size is dependant on several things, such as, the amount of information on each page, the type of document (all text, image or combination and colors). Try to scan to OCR and then save as PDF.
If you have the full version of Acrobat, not just the reader, try scanning to a word file or RTF then convert to PDF.

I have a Lexmark x5470 all-in-one and need drivers for Linux

Try deleting the printer from windows, so that Linux is the only system doing the talking with the printer.
