I have a tt 920. I can't get a gps signal either no matter where

I live in Michigan , could not get gps signal there or anywhere on way to Florida. TT says Waiting for GPS signal.
Help. What do I do?

  • sbn8 Mar 20, 2009

I called TomTom and was told if it is out of warranty there is nothing they can do to fix it. SO NOW WHAT? Does anyone know where I can get it fixed?

I have had it around a year or so. I never really used it. It was working fine until I downloaded an update.

I am very disappointed with Tom Tom and will certainly not recommend their products if they wont stand behind them.

Hi,
Sorry to hear that. I have this TT also & I live in Michigan. It shouldn't be doing that. Have you connected to PC and installed all updates? Have you done a soft reset?
If you have done those things & still have this problem I suggest you call the company. When I bought mine I had problems so I called TT, they sent me a replacement immediatly. Actually they sent me 5 different ones until I got a good one. I'll give you the #'s that I use to talk to them. Good luck.
If this helps plz rate this as 'fixa'. Thank you kindly.

That's terrible. When I called them I had mine for just over 1 year. I'm with you, I don't recommend their units. When I get home tonight I will do some research, there has to be a solution to this, these units cost a fortune!

The Logo screen freezes on start up.

Connect it to your pc then turn it on. It should either connect or ask you to connect to the pc. If tt home opens shut it down. Do a complete backup of your unit onto the desktop. DO NOT USE TOMTOM HOME TO DO THIS!!!! After doing a complete backup format the drive on your tt useing fat 32. Open tt home and let it reload your os. Do this a couple of times to get the newest os. Disconnect your tt from the computer the way you normally do and restart your tt. Reconnect your tt and do not let home start. Go to your backup and copy and paste your maps back onto the root of your tt. If you have any question email me.
Hope this helps

Unable to change symbol on tomtom 920 sat navigation.

using TT home check that you still have the symbol you want installed on the TT. I had a similar problem where it would seem to forget what I had choosen on occasion and sometimes I had to use TT home to check and re-install. problem itself seemed to just go away. (Guess it got sick of me telling it LOL)

Tomtom one starts then goe's to tomtom one picture

This solution is for jrhsr57 and cherryd90 connect your tt device to your computer. It should boot up and connect to your computer. After it has connected go to "My Computer" and open the drive of your tt. Make sure on your computer you have selected to show all files. To make sure all files are being displayed in Win XP go to "Control Panel" then open "Folder Options". Then click on "View". Scroll down and make sure "Show hidden files and folders" is checked. Next make a "New Folder" on your desktop (right click anywhere on your desktop and select "folder"). Go back to "My Computer and open the drive of your tt. Click "edit" then "select all" Go back to "edit" and select "copy". After doing this go to the "New Folder" you made previously and right click and select paste. You have just made a backup of your tt device (DO NOT DO THIS USING TT HOME). This will take a little time so be patient. After making a complete backup of your tt device go back to "MY Computer" and right click on your devices drive and select "Format". Format it in "Fat 32". This will erase everything on your tt's drive. After formatting your tt's drive open tt home. Home will then tell you you need an application, click OK and let tt home install the application for you. After tt home has installed the new application go back to the "New Folder" where you made a backup of your tt device. Open the folder and right click on the map of your device and select "Copy", then go to "MY Computer". Do NOT open the device drive but simply put your arrow on the drive of your tt and right click and select "paste". You may have to do the same to the "Voices" folder. After doing this open tt home again and it will more than likely tell you, you need a application update, again let tt home install the application. This will update your tt to the most up to date application for your device. After doing this and everything is working go back to the "New Folder" where you made a backup of your device. Open the folder and delete everything there. Now make a backup of everything on your working tt. Keep this backup in case something goes wrong on your tt again. I can not express strongly enough NOT to do this using tt home.
