Fans run continually

  • Anonymous May 24, 2013

    Although the Apple store wouldn't say, I believe the problem was due to the fact that when I had a new HD installed, they did not plug back in the heat sensor cable from the logic board to the HD. They got the same HD error as me, (4 SNS 1 40000000 TH00 9.00) which tells them its a sensor problem. They said they put in another new HD. I'll never know what the truth is. All I know now is it's as quiet as a morgue.

There are several causes for this:

  • Dust buildup in the computer prevents proper cooling, so the fans have to work harder.
  • Corrupted Power Manager chip settings. Go to the Apple support page and search for "Power Manager" "reset" and your specific model. You can get the model number from the System Profiler utility (Apple menu: About this Mac: More Info). If this is the problem, resetting the Power Manager should solve it. If it happens again after unplugging, you may need a new clock/PRAM battery;
  • Bad temperature sensor (all fans run at high speed);
  • Shorted fan driver transistor on the logic board or in power supply (one fan always runs at max speed).

Cooling fans continue to run when engine is shut off

This is normal. Cooling fans today are not turned by the fan belt but are run by an electric motor. The fan continues running until the coolant temperature is reduced

Hi
hope you have fixed the problem by now. However your description does not have enough information to help find solutions. Describe what you do and how you have tried to solve the problem.

First, check for dust buildup in the system, especially inside the power supply. Dust prevents proper heat removal, so the system gets hotter, necessitating higher fan speeds. Next, verify that the fans are actually running at full speed and not simply making a lot of noise because the bearings are worn out (unplug the computer, then gently wiggle the fan blades - if you feel slop, excess friction or grinding in the bearings, it's time for a new fan).
Other possibilities are a shorted fan driver transistor or a bad temperature sensor, but these are less probable than the items in the first paragraph..

What does this error code mean...4SNS/1/C0000008 TL0P==124

It's a temperature sensor error, usually the fans run at maximum rpm when this happens. The error indicates the LCD temp sensor is either reporting out of range data, is disconnected, or has failed. It is probably a damaged or disconnected sensor cable. A disconnected or missing sensor would simply force the fan(s) to run fast to protect the system.

Apple hard test error 4sns/1/40000000:tp0p-131.000

This error code is from the PSU sensor. Verify that the single pin connector on the top edge of the power supply is present and securely plugged in. If damaged replace the DC PSU cable. Causes the CPU fan to run at full speed.

My fan continues to run even though the heating

Check the fan relay and make sure it is working properly. It might be stuck, which is the most likely problem

Infocus in26 fan runs continually

Hello,
The fan does run continuously on this projector however it should be running very very slow when the projector has completed it's lamp cool down routine.
The reason for this is that a portion of the switching power supply remains energized (running) when the projector is at rest. But as I mentioned it should run very slow in this state. If it remains running full blast then most likely the fan speed control chip is shorted which can cause fail 2 ways, either the fan 1. runs full
speed or 2. remains stalled (then the projector will go over-temp and shut itself down) I hope this answers you question.

Cheers
