How to trun off Maintenance required light in 2006 Toyota Avalon
I've been getting my oil changes at places other than a Toyota dealership. My ''Maintenance Required'' light comes on and I want to know how to turn it off.
Re: How to trun off Maintenance required light in 2006...
Turn ignition key to 'acc' or 'lock' position
press and hold tripmeter knob
while pressing knob turn key to 'on' but do not turn over engine
release trip when light goes out

That light is an indicator that the required miles have been drove and it's time to do an oil change. The light should be reset after every oil change as the computer keeps track of the miles to warn you when it's time again should you forget.
If you want to turn the light off then follow these steps.
Push and hold the trip button and then turn the ignition to on while holding the trip reset button. Keep holding for 10 seconds and the maintenance required light will go offf.
The maintenance required light just means that some sort of scheduled maintenance needs to be done. Most of the time it just means you need an oil/filter change. Your owner's manual will list what maintenance is required based on your milage. This light is not the same as the Check Engine light which means that something is wrong with the emissions system.
Set the display window to ODO. Turn the ignition switch off. While pressing the reset switch, turn the ignition switch on(IG). Keep pressing the reset switch for at least 5 seconds to complete reset procedure.
*IF this does not work you have be confused with the warning light, it may not be the oil life, but check engine light, refer to owners manual for clarity.
The maintenance light coming on indicates that the car's computer has an error code for you to deal with. There are dozens of error codes so the only way to know is to have the computer scanned. That said, AAMCO repair shops now scan for free as do some auto parts stores. Call around for a free scan or go to a dealership where they charge. If you do choose the dealership ask up front what the scan fee is and try to negotiate it lower. Joe
"Maintenance Required" is an automatic indicator which runs on your mileage. Once serviced the counters need to be reset. It could be that when you had the oil change the service centre did not reset the computer (they forgot, ps. this is not somethuing you can DIY) or you did not take it to a Toyota service centre, in which case they did not have the electronic gadget needed to do the reset. Get it back to Toyota or at least someone who can do the reset.
To reset the light,
Turn the ignition on Make sure the odometer displays "ODO" 1.Turn the key off 2.Press and hold down the same button you use to get to "ODO" 3.Turn the key back to ON ( while still holding down the button) 4.Hold the button in until all the flashing lines on the odometer go away and the bunch of "000000" shows up and the maint reset light will turn off. Your'e done.
If this doesn't work, you would have to try it on "trip A" instead of "ODO".
Your Avalon uses 5-30 oil, 6qt with filter. Trans is Toyota's WS(world standard) ATF(there is no dipstick) There are no grease fittings on the car. All the maintenance schedules are listed in the owners manual per mileage.
Can you explain the light? Does it say chack engine? Maint? If it says MAINT you need to get your oil changed. If you dont go to the dealership to change your oil, they dont reset the timer for the MAINTenance light and it comes on anyway. Get a better mechanic, and get your light reset. Or I can teach you how to reset it, just let me know.
Is it you maintenance light(service eng ) or is it your require oil chance light? If it is your change oil now light look in our manual it should tell you how to reset it. Let me know which light it is.
