HE3 DRYER EVER SINCE I GOT MY HE3 WASHER & DRYER MY CLOTHES SMELL MOLDY. THEY COME OUT OF THE WASHER OK BUT WHEN THEY COME OUT OF THE DRYER THEY STINK. HELP!

  • jaguarx Nov 02, 2008

Many of these responses seem to address moldy clothes in the washer - that is NOT the problem posted. I have the same issue as the original message poster that the clothes smell fentastic after the washer cycle is complete. It is only after they come out of the dryer that they absolutely STINK like mold. The dryer also needs an additional batch of time to get clother completely dry. I have had the HE3 set for roughly 7 years now and love them. Only recently have I had the issue with the dryer.

Is anyone able to troubleshoot the actual dryer causing the moldy smell (NOT the washer...).

    Thank you!

In order to keep mold from forming and building up, simply leave the washer door open after the cycle is finished. This allows the air to circulate and allows the interior of the washer to dry. If you already have mold build-up, you'll need to clean it off first... but since I never had this problem in six years of owning the He3, I can't advise you on how to do that. :>)

Dear HE3 owners, I've had this same issue with a moldy smell for a few years. Hundreds of dollars later........ If you own the HE3 washer as well........this is the problem.........First, clean behind the rubber seal, yes, stick your head in there and see what I found, gross!!!! The new technology is catching up with us. With the older top loaders the scum was visable, therefore, we cleaned the upper seal. This still won't fix the odor though. What your not doing is running the Whitest White or the Sanitary cycle. I almost never use either. Seems doing this fixes this issue. First run bleach with the Sanitary cycle than go at it. You'll find yourself washing everything again. Finally after years of buying this front loader, FRESH, CLEAN CLOTHES !!!! Most of us won't run that cycle unless needed due to the 1 or 2 hour duration. Must be an issue somewhere where water lays. They need to recall both of these machines. I had E? errors on my dryer, dryer kept shuting down, ended up being a $20 part, the thermister. You know who wanted big bucks just to show up. Hope this works for you !!!!

Check to see if something is stuck in the drain filter on the washer. with the front load small items can get into the drain valve through the door seal. we had a childs sock stuck in the drain and it made every thing smell. more notacible after we dried the clothes

I DONT REMEMBER WHERE I READ THIS BUT IT WORKED. GET ARMON HAMMER NEUTRALIZER AND WASH CLOTHS THOROUGHLY WITH THAT. THEN BE CAREFUL HOW MUCH SOFTNER U USE BECAUSE ITBUILDS UP IN THE CLOTHS. mY PROBLEM WAS PRIMARILY WITH THE TOWELS. THEY SMELLED SOUR.

Try using a different fabric softener. I had switched from one brand to another and the problem that you mentioned began. I switched back to my first brand and the problem went away. The brand starts with a D, but if you leave the damp clothes in the dryer for to long forget it, you are asking for problems.

Clean all of the lint from the inside cabinet and duct work of your dryer. Then, try to clear the odor, by running a couple of loads of old rags or towels. Good luck!

It sounds like your leaving the clothes in the washer long after the cycle is finished. Once your clothes smell from the washer they will smell moldy dry.

Neptune MLG2000A doesn't drain completely and has moldy smell

You need to clean the stationary "brush" that collects lint and debris from the water during the cycle. The brush can be seen around the tub directly touching it along the bottom/front of the device. Right were I pour my detergent in, after the cloths are in there. To remove the debris I use a bottle brush. You can expect to use trial and error for your attempts. As far as the water being left.... My device has always left water in the bowl. I periodically just run a cycle with no cloths and bleach...HOT.....Mine is not spinning at the moment...again....I think its another call to the local dealer....AGAIN....

Smell after drying

Try drying your clothes without the dryer sheet and see if the smell is still there. If it is not, then the problem is the dryer sheet.
If it is, then you need to describe the smell better. Different people handle smells differently. What smells musty to you may smell fragrant to others.
You need to determine if the smell you don't like is really a musty smell, or is it a fragrance you don't like. Have some friends (not family members) smell the clothes and verify if what you are smelling is musty or fragrant.

It could also be that even though the clothes smell OK out of the washer, that the detergent you are using is the cause.

Fridgidaire front end washer

ok first of all, you should be using HE detergents, it uses less suds, regular detergent will slow your water from draining properly out of your washer. Another thing it is recommended that after you wash a load you dryer rubber gasket or leave door crack to dry out..

The machine smells moldy...

moldy smell, may not be mold at all, in fact most "moldy musty" smells actually come from user not using proper detergents, you NEED to be using an HE detergent and little amounts of that even. cut back on fabric \softneer if using, www.affresh.com new product to help alleviate this issue

Moldy odor

Try running it with just vinager and water no clothes.
Just put about a cup of vinager in it and wash cycle and another cup in rinse cycle.
Vinager is a better disinfectant and odor eliminator than bleach.

Mold & Smelly in Washer

Shepherd, Finkelman, Miller & Shah, LLC, is currently investigating defects and other problems in certain front-loading washing machines manufactured and/or sold by Whirlpool, Kenmore, and LG Electronics, including Kenmore Elite HE3 front load washers, Whirlpool Duet front load washers and LG Tromm, LG XL and other LG model front load washers, which result in the growth of mold/mildew in the machines and which can cause the staining of clothes and other problems.

On August 29, 2007, SFMS filed a Complaint against Sears Holding Corp. involving its Kenmore HE, HE2, HE3, HE4, HE5 and other front-loading automatic washers. If you own a front-loading washing machine that is manufactured by any of the above-mentioned companies and are experiencing the growth of mold/mildew in the machine, visit the following website: www.frontloadwasherclassaction.com
