No dryer heat

My neptune maytag dryer is producing no heat. The igniter lights and the gas lights. The flame stays on for less than 1 minute. It repeats this cycle but never stays lit long enough to produce any heat. I have checked the following items: 1. Igniter checks out good 150oms 2. Radiant Sensor checks out good 0oms 3. High Tempature thermonstat good 0oms 4. Drum tempature thermostat good 0oms 5. Checked both solenoids on the gas valve (coils) the two prong coil check out at around 1300 oms the three prong coil check out a little odd, One side read 1400 oms and the other side check out around 1890 oms. the oms reading across the coil read 500 oms. 6. The exhaust vent is extremely clean from the drum to the outside flapper. I think it is the coils (Solenoids) on the Gas Valve, I had no gas leaks when checked. Can you help me with this??

If the coils are bad the unit will light with flame for 4 - 8 times then all of a sudden the ignitor will glow, kick off with no gas coming threw valve. it sounds like the high limit thermostat is short cycling the flame. This is the thermostat that sits on top of the burner chamber. remove 1 screw from the thermostat and blend it upwards away from the heat. Then plug unit back in and test to see if the flame stays on longer. Click here to see maytag dryer no heat posts. Contact me anytime here. Hope this helps..

SOURCE: Gas shuts off/flame off w/in minutes of starting maytag gas dryer

If you did all the things listed, there are only 2 left that will cause the problem. The cycle thermostat located on the exhaust vent and possibly poor airflow. Remove the connecting vent from the rear and try a timed load. If it works repair the vent exhaust problem. Most cycle thermostats include a thermister that could also be defective causing the short cycle. The flame sensor and gas valve coils would have been the number 1 diagnosis. I would need a model number to more specific.

SOURCE: Neptune dryer proble. The dryer works except no

Hi,

Basically it’s the two wires that go from the sensor to the igniter. Please check the schematic diagram of the wiring as well to check it the sensor is fine or it’s the igniter. Therefore I would request you to check the sensor followed by the igniter.

SOURCE: My Maytag gas dryer won't heat. I have replaced

Hi,

If you are having problems with your gas dryer not heating the most common problem is that the ignitor goes bad. Even though it glows sometimes it is still not working properly.

if you dryer is gas check out this gas no heat tip....

If you have an electric dryer, you can have many different things that can go wrong causing the dryer not to heat.

Maytag Neptune dryer model MDG9700 does not heat up. When dryer is on, I can feel very light heat and there is a slight burning odor. Drum spins and dryer appears to work as usual.

Check you flame. If the flame is very short (less than half way down the burner tube, it can be a gas pressure regulator failure. They are adjustable but that usually indicated it is about to fail. Make sure the flame ignites every time you hear the relay and solenoid valve click. The is a small panel on the front that can be removed to see the burner and the pressure regulator. The is a glow igniter that comes on several seconds before the gas is admitted. Confirm that works. Check at the dryer vent whether you smell gas once and a while which would be an indication of a failure to ignite.

Hello,

What your describing sounds pretty much like the sympthons of weak coils that open the gas valve. It is a fairly common thing that happens with gas dryers so i have written a tip that explains in detail what happens when gas valve coils are weak.

Hello,

Their are 2 possible things wrong;

1) Does the igniter just stay on or does it glow and go off usually within 1 minute?..if the igniter just stays on and never goes off the FLAME SENSOR will be the problem
here is what the flame sensor looks like oldtech2332_86.jpg
2) if the igniter does glow then go off but no flame..the coils that open the gas valve are bad
here is what they look like oldtech2332_87.jpg

The part numbers are;

FALME SENSOR 338906

GAS VALVE COILS 279834

Gas flame ignites, stays on a minute or two, then cuts off and doesn't reignite unless dryer turned off

the gas valve is not sensing flame if you have hsi ignitor it also acts as a flame sensor or you might have a metel rod that reaches into the flame if you do youhave to have some one check and clean it

Gas maytag dryer not heating up

check the thermal fuse in the dryer vent duct to be open,then if not the flame eye" radiant sensor" or the high-limit thermostat both on the burner tube if the sensor doesn't see(sense) a flame the gas valve will stay shut,then check the gas valve coils,both the BOOST and SECONDARY coil valves on the gas valve body as these can open up and not gas into the burner

Maytag gas dryer will heat for about one minute

The gas coils on the gas valve have gone bad. These are located on the gas valve and will be 2 solenoids. Replace them both and should be able to get as a set. 12001349 should be the number and cost less than 60.00 for the set. Good luck and thank you for using Fix Ya.

Maytag Neptune Gas Dryer

You have a Hi-Limit t'stat located at 12 o'clock on the flame shroud. A safety fuse is also located on the flame shroud at 1 o'clock. The flame sensor is located at 9 o'clock on the flame shroud. The Hi-Limit can be temporarily bypasses for a quick check, as well as the fuse, but do 1 at a time. Be sure to unplug the dryer before testing.

If that doesn't help, let me know if you need more assistance.
