I get this erroneous message-more than one ink tank of the following color is installed cyan
After reading the suggestions here, I tried cleaning the contacts of the cartridge with a Q-tip cotton swab, SLIGHTLY dampened with rubbing alcohol. This seemed to pretty much stop the problem, though it did re-occur occasionally throughout the life of that cartridge. Once I replaced that cartridge, it has never happened again. I guess this shows that you can (rarely) get a cartridge with bad contacts. If this ever happens again, I would return the cartridge to the retailer and get a new one.
P.s. PS Dave: ur a jacka$$ :(

I am having the same problem. I found a few other forums on this issue that suggest cleaning the contacts on the cartridge. Opening the cover and reseating the cartridge only worked the first few times for me and now even cleaning the cartridge fails. Only other thing is to replace the cartridge all together I guess.

When I go to print I get the message 'more than one ink tank of the following colour is installed. Black (5). Use only one ink tank per colour at a time.' I have to click the cancel printing button.
I turn the printer off. Turn on again - then open the lid to see the Black (5) ink is flashing - so I remove it and then put it back then close and go to print and it works OK.
WHY?
I have had the same issue for the past two weeks. It is very annoying.
I've had a Canon mp500 printer-copier-scanner for a few years and it's been flawless, until the last couple of weeks. Now I'm getting an error message saying there's more than one ink cartridge of a specific ink color installed, and it won't print. I have to "cancel" the print job. There is of course only one cartridge of each ink color installed, and none of them needs replacing. Any ideas, anyone?
I'm having the same problem. It is very irritating. I have had some success with taking the cyan tank out and putting it back in but not always.
