Kitchenaid Mixer beater hits side of bowl

Flat beater hits side of 6qt mixer bowl. This mixer has the handle that raises and lowers bowl. Beater hits the left side...adjusting bowl height has not helped...kitchenaid helpline did not help either.

SOURCE: Can't get the screw adjustment to change the height of the bowl

I had a similar problem with mine - the problem turned out to be that I hadn't clicked the bowl into place corectly. If you find the bowl is tilting forward slightly then you probably need to push it into the clip at the back.

SOURCE: kitchenaid mixer makes a lot of noise. The beater

Hi - I've been searching for general info on KitchenAid stand mixers and ran across this so I'm throwing my $.02 in... Since KA stand mixer bases are essentially made of cast metal parts, there is a very slim chance that there is a lateral misalignment (side-side) unless it got dropped...eek! Sounds like a head height adjustment issue. Check out this from KitchenAid Conversations:

SOURCE: Kitchenaid stand mixer 5SSWH 325 watts. How do I adjust the bowl height? Beater is too far from bottom of bowl. Thanks! Cas

There is a screw at the bottom of the motor head (flat head) you usually can't see it because of the top rim of the mixing bowl. hard to see and hard to reach, it may also be hard to turn due to "gunk" from mixing stuff (egg butter flour sugar) turn the screw counter clockwise to lower the motor head clockwise to raise it, you may also have the wrong size beater, it is not an uncommon problem, if you are the original owner and you have the original beater it should fix your problem with the adjusting screw, however I am not clear as to your model a 5SSWH would actually be a K5SSWH, which stands for kitchenaid 5 quart solid state white mixer, if this is your model number and you have the correct beater size then the adjusting screw will work to lower the head down, adjust it down using the stir or slowest speed just untill you can hear the beater "Ding" against the bottom of the bowl, then back it off a quarter turn to adjust properly. Hope this helps, let us know

I have a KitchenAid mixer KM25GOX NSF, Model serial number WT2333793. I purchased on eBay & it is in great condition, but the flat beater hits the bottom of the bowl & the adjustment screw doesnt...

1. Unplug stand mixer.
2. Place bowl lift handle in down position.
3. Attach flat beater.
4. Adjust so flat beater just clears bottom surface of bowl
when in lifted position by turning screw
(A) Counterclockwise to lower the bowl.
5. Just a slight turn 90 degrees in either direction.
Place bowl lift handle in up position to check clearance.
6. Repeat Steps 4 and 5 if necessary.
I hope I helped you.

The flat coated beater has worn off the coating why and how to fix it

Hi ARADAM, you don’t provide the model number or say if you have a ‘tilt-head’ or a ‘bowl-lift' mixer, which would helpful, but you can easily download a PDF version of your Owners Manual from the KA website at: (http://www.kitchenaid.com/flash.cmd?/#/page/home).
Click on Customer Care>Locate Manuals& Guides> and enter the 6 character model number and select a file listed under Owners Manuals and save that file to your PC. You’ll need to have Adobe Reader to be able to open it. Turn to Page 11 and you will find the instructions for adjusting the mixer head height. I have extracted the instructions below:
Beater to Bowl Clearance
Your mixer is adjusted at the factory so that the flat beater just clears the bottom of the bowl. If for any reason, the flat beater hits the bottom of the bowl or is too far away from the bowl, clearance.
Tilt-Head models
• Unplug mixer.
• Lift motor head.

• Turn screw (A) SLIGHTLY counter clockwise (left) to raise flat beater or clockwise (right) to lower flat beater.
• Make adjustment with flat beater, so it just clears surface of bowl.
If you over adjust the screw, the bowl lock lever may not lock into place.

Bowl-Lift models
• Unplug mixer.
• Place bowl lift handle in down position.

• Turn screw (B) SLIGHTLY counter clockwise (left) to raise flat beater and clockwise (right) to lower flat beater.

Can you lengthen the beater by loosing a screw?

Hi, KLOEHR, your beater will not lengthen by losing a screw. However, if you lost your Beater to Bowl Clearance adjustment screw, then it might appear that your beater had ‘grown’ because now the beater may be touching the bottom of your mixing bowl, where previously it had not. Simply said, the beater didn’t grow the mixer head drooped.
