I can get you a diagram no problem! what I will need from you though is the numbers off of your Briggs engine. (Model, Type, & Code) the numbers should be stamped into the flywheel cover. get me this and I will get you a diagram as soon as I can. thanks.

I have an old tiller I am trying to get running just to do it. A friend gave it to me and said good luck. The engine is a Briggs model 130202m type 0198 04 Code 7801050. I think I saw where it was built in 1978. Problem, it has compression and no fire. I removed the flywheel and points were stuck. I decided to go first class and bought a Briggs Magnatron coil. Still no fire. Any ideas. I am not sure how to hook up the stop switch wire. I thought I would get some juice by just spinning the flywhell but no go. Any Help will be appreciated. Bruce

I think there was marketing technical a modification happening by your model motor , ALLWAYS give up the motornumber for the right ignition coil the flywheel magnet can be changed allways must be compatible to each other

Make sure the coil is not on backwards. The diagram that came with the coil points this out. Also make sure your air gap is set properly. There should be a card (tag) about the thickness of a playing card that is used to set the gap between the flywheel and coil arms. The stop switch wire should be set up the same way the old one was when you took off the old coil. Some engines have a kill switch on top of the engine by the spark plug. It's basically a peice of metal that you push down on the metal part of the plug to kill engine. If you have a switch like this then don't use the switch wire that came with the coil. (you don't need it)

I need the linkage diagram for a 20 hp briggs and statton model 407777-0167

Besides the service manual you can view parts diagrams at a dealer like www.arcolawn.com. You can purchase the service manual at a dealer and it will show you how to hook it up.
The throttle linkage hooks up to the throttle shaft closest to the engine. the governor spring attaches the governor arm to the throttle linkage.
The choke cable attaches to the shaft farthest from the engine. I hope this helps.
PS your engine has two factory service bulletins on it.

Motor runs wide open when set @ slow speed

It could be that the governor spring has become disconnected or has broken on an end where it hooks onto the throttle linkage. If the spring is OK & throttle linkage is not binding it could mean the governor drive inside the engine has failed preventing the governor from operating correctly. You may need to take the engine to a mechanic to fix the problem.

Think i have a problem with governor on my 21hp v-twin briggs. it jumped to max speed and can't get it to slow down. which part of the governoring system could have let go?

Check for a broken spring on the governor linkage, follow your throttle control cable down to where it attaches to the throttle mechanism. In behind where the cable attaches you should be able to see a spring on the governor arm, the spring may have broken or somehow came out of its attaching point. Obviously be very careful about over-revving the engine, it could result in a broken connecting rod and a hole in the side of your crankcase.
