A regular weight piece of paper feeds through the printer and comes out crumpled on the upper right quadrant - wrinkles and creases. An envelope fed through the middle portion of the printer is also creased. A heavy weight sheet will not crease.
When printing labels, the toner does not adhere properly to the upper right quadrant of the label sheet - it smears and peels off.
I tried to take the side off the printer to get to the rollers, but was unsuccessful - I couldn't figure out a way to get the cover off. I cannot see anything in the cartridge area or the feeding area that looks wrong. There isn't any paper stuck that I can see. The back drop-down area is also clear.
Can I fix it or do I buy new?
Thanks,
The fuser is shot....this is the unit that uses heat and pressure to fuse the toner to the page. It is primarily when the pressure roller wears that you get crinkling and bad fusing, but I'm sure the upper sleeve has seen better days as well.
These days it is (sadly) cheaper to replace this printer with a new little HP -only around $100 or so.
