My DVD Ram drive is not reading any CD/DVD

If i go to device manager and see the drive properties, it says the drive is working properly, but it doesn't playback any CD/DVD. The autoplay options are set to default. Actually few days back my drive used to give " power calibration error" problem while burning using Nero 8. But now its not at all reading anything. When i insert any CD the DVD drive light blinks for 10-15 secs , but then nothing happens. If I go to my computer and try to play it doesn't read anything, though i'm able to eject the Cd using the vista eject option on my computer page. Please help...

The most common reasons for a power calibration error is a dirty lens or bad media. Clean the lens with a short burst of cabbed air or carefully wipe it with a cotton swab.
Good luck.

Dvd drive won't work

Click Start/My Computer and see if you see your DvD Drive listed. If not, that's a problem. If you see it listed Click Start/Control Panel/System then look for Device Manager. If your running Windows XP the Device Manager will be under the Hardware Tab. If the DVD/CD drive has a + sign beside it, click the + sign to expand to see the drive listed. Right Click on the Drive and click Propeerties. Properties will tell you if the drive is working properly. You can also Update the Driver when you right click on it or you can do it from the Driver Tab in Properties. If all is well your problem might be you are trying to read a bootleg DvD or CD that someone created for you. Drives sometimes have a hard time reading media that was not store bought. If that's the case try a CD or DvD that you purchased from a store and see if it reads it.

Click start control panel administrive tools computer management device manager scroll to cd/dvd rom drives right click properties then properties again then tick enable cd digital cd audio for this cd rom device or scroll to dvd regions select the no _ for your specific area
If this does not fix the problem you might try:

Close all open programs

Click on Start, Run, and type regedit and press Enter
Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

SYSTEM

CurrentControlSet

Control

Class

This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.

Upper Filters

Lower Filters

Upper Filters.bak

Lower Filters.bak

If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete

After deleting the keys, close the registry editor
Reboot your computer

Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone. or
you might have to physically unplug the leads for this cd/dvd then plug them back this should activate the found new hardware wizard or

you might have to uninstall then restart your computer then reinstall your DVD/CD then reinstall the driver for this device
if your computer came with a motherboard disk the drivers could be on it

Read a CD Do not read a DVD

Hi sachin,

Optical SATA drives don't come with drivers, they use the ones built into Windows. So What I would try first would be to uninstall the driver in the Device Manager, and reboot. Windows will reinstall the drivers on reboot.

To get to the Device Manager
click on Start
right click on My Computer
click on Properties
click on either the tab or link for Device Manager
look for your DVD
click on the +
double click on the DVD
uninstall
reboot

Hope this helps, let me know how you made out in a comment, if you need more help, feel free to ask in the comment.

My light on dvdrw lh20 a1p will not read and durnt cd

I was having a problem getting my dvd (Lite-On LH-20A1P) to read my cds. I found a very simple solution that worked for me. I hope the following procedure works for others.

I have windows xp (I believe this solution may work for other window versions)

Go to "My Computer" on desktop (or in Start) and right click on it.

Click "Properties"
On the tabs at the top, click on "Hardware"
Click on "Device Manager"
Click the plus sign beside "DVD/CD ROM drives"
Double-click on Lite-On
On the tabs at the top, click on "Properties"
At the bottom, there is a box that is most likely checked that reads...
"Enabled digital CD audio for this CD-Rom device"

Uncheck it.

Do the same for all DVD/CD Rom devices you may have.

This simple solution worked for me. Now both my DVD and CD Roms are reading all of my cds.

I would suggest trying this simple step first before downloading any drivers or buying any 'Driver Update' programs - which may cause you even more problems than you are already having.

Acer extensa 5620 notebook dvd-cd rom doesn't read my dvd. i think i uninstalled driver. how can i find dvd writer driver for my notebook?

go to device manager under System Properties. Locate DVD/CD Drives, expand it, select your drive, right click and then left click on properties, select the General tab and check the state of the device IT SHOULD indicate the device is working properly, if so or if not, select the Driver tab unomstall the driver, reboot, see if Windows will reinstall the driver as it should recognize the device as a new drive. If not return to the device manager and reinstall the driver.
