You might have a bad coil, if you know someone with a Bounty Hunter detector you can switch out the coil with theres and see if this takes care of the problem first, you can order a new replacement coil on eBay for your detector or you can send the detector back to the manufacturer for repair. If it is less than 5 years old they will repair it for FREE, they have no way of knowing how old it is since they do not use serial numbers on tere products so they will take your word on it as to how old it is. Contact them first before sending it back to them at First Texas Products (915) 633-8354.
IT COULD be a few things:
1) check all connections.
2) You may just live in an area w/ lots of electric/magnetic interference, this is not rare...have you tried bring it somewhere a distance away from your home?
3) These machines DO NOT operate correctly on any batteries other then alkalines...if u use even a Heavy Duty battery, you will get the same chatter, slightly or non detecting results...U MUST USE ALKALINES, my reccomendation is only duracell or the bunny rabbit that doesnt stop alkalines.
